Middaugh hammered horgan 7-2. Defending champ eliminated from contention. Very important win for sherry as it keeps her at the top of the table

You do realise, of course, that Jill was skip of 3 NS teams at nationals already, Canadian junior in 2001, a Canadian junior championship in 2004, and an STOH national appearance in 2007.

Whoever gave her those first curling lessons in Liverpool when she was 10 must have been good (of course not mentioning any names, as is Albert Smart, who became her coach for most of her junior years, begining after she had curled a year or so) LOL

Yes but it is still really easy to get out of those Maritime provinces. Competition is mediocre at best and until Mouzar starts playing in the big spiels and slams her resume is still on the thin side.

Jill Mouzar

So winning a Canadian junior championship and losing on the last rock in a World championsip final gives a thin resume? Oh, ok. So just how many Canadian junior championships have ANY Ontario junior women's skips won since 1994 (Compared to the 2 by NS)? Only ONE, Rachel Hohman in 2010, other than that,Ontario was shut out in the junior women's while NS won 2 Canadian junior championships between 1994 and 2010. From 1994 to now, NS has won twice as many Canadian junior women's as Ontario) In women's have you ever heard of Colleen Jones out of NS, and has she ever won a Canadian championship? Colleen, a Nova Scotian, has won more STOH national championships as an indvidual than the Province of Ontario has as a province. (Then you add Penny in 1983 to the Colleen's for the NS STOH national championship total)

6 for Colleen, 1 for Penny = NS total of STOH national championships = 7

Ontario STOH national championships as a province = 5

STOH = 1982 to present

middaugh not guarantgeed anything. If she loses to mccarville tonight she'll have to play tiebreakers.

however if she wins tonight and dahl upsets auld then sherry might be able to get into the 1 v.s 2 game against homan

The so called "great teams" from Ontario were unable to win, in most cases. Nova Scotia has been more of a power in women's curling and mixed curling and Ontario has been weak compared to the Maritimes. Maybe that's because Ontario is competitive only in the minds of Ontario people, and the Maritimes is actually far more competitive than Ontario (also check how many times NS, NB and PEI have won the national mixed compared to Ontario, Ontario=2, NS=7, PEI=3, NB=2 ... Maritimes 12, Ontario 2 in the Canadian mixed)

Based on performance (winning) it is clear that Ontario trails NS and the Maritmes in being competitive by a lot, despite (and who cares) what people in Ontario think.

All evidence proves that the Maritimes are far more competitive at the national level, in most events, than Ontario is.

Bonus question....what province broke Randy Ferbey's streak of Brier wins? (HINT: it's NOT Ontario)

You won the prize. Mark's NS team was the one who broke Ferbey's streak.

Arsenault kills Nix in 5. Looking like a good chance for this team to make it back to the nationals. It would be great to see them back there...

I'd love to see Arsenault get back to the Scotties, but just for a sense of nostalgia and to give this team one last glory march.... however, watching them on the live stream in Switzerland a few weeks ago was pretty painful. Extremely conservative strategy and non-stop banter back and forth across the sheet causing snail's-pace play. Not taking anything away from this team - obviously what they do works for them, especially with the notoriously straight ice conditions in Atlantic Canada! But I wonder if they could really compete with the top Canadian teams in the women's game right now. I guess we'll see if they make it!

Cathy keeps her slim playoff hopes alive with a win over chelsey carey

i kind of liken team arsenault's possible return to the scotties to kerry burtnyk's retrun a couple years ago. Everyone was really happy to see kerry get back to a brier because everyone knew it would more than likely be his last chance. He was competitive with the middle back teams and ended with a respectable 6-5 finish but was hammered by the top teams. I would think the same would be true for colleen and company..unfortunateky

but it would still just be great to see them in action at a scotties again

Clusterf*ck in MB, too many scenarios. Only Jones/Carey would represent the province well, so hoping one of them pulls through.

You got that right, kyoh. Every year Manitoba demonstrates how great an 8- or 10-team round robin tournament works in comparison with our horrible provincial formats. I hate the pools at the Scotties and I *really* hate the 32-team gong show that is the Safeway Championship. We've currently got 3 winless teams in a 16-team event.

If i understand the playoff format, which is the top 2 from each group make the playoffs. With Spencer 5-0 & both JJ and Montford at 4-1 all in the same group, there is a scenario jones could be eliminated this evening.

If Jones losses against spencer and montford wins ... 2 losses might be one too many in that group.

And people think this idoit is a fan of jones and her team ... LMFAO!!!

idoit?

ML,

I watched Carey in a Tour speil this fall and they were firing on all cylinders. Looked really impressive, but had one bad game at the wrong time which seems typical of most of the women's teams.

Do you really think if Carey got to the Scotties she wouldn't do well?

Carey got bounced a couple times to inferior teams already at the MB Scotties - much as Carey has proven herself on the national scene she gets increasingly uptight as the years go by without getting to the big one.

Even teams like Lawton puke up the odd stinker, such is the nature of the game.

Homan seems impenetrable this year but we all remember last year where she gifted Tracey Horgan a set of hearts! And Homan will still have to prove herself in a one-game Ontario final.

ML you might be right about McCarville...a dark horse who could surprise Homan. However with Earl back as their coach...Homan is still the favourite.
