Joanne and Emma were so emotional- good for them!

Courtney has done a magnificent job bottling up her emotions last few years - since being hand-picked from Val Sweeting's Alberta side, Sweeting's 3rd shooter but brushing on skip's rock's while Dana held the stick.

She must have been mentally cycling thru her journey from nursing school to getting picked to play with Val - to getting the call from Rachel when Ali Kreviazuk left to marry the swede.

What a journey - she's one of the best seconds in the world (if not the best) and easily the best brusher in the women's game. More power and strength than any other woman - and I'm totally impressed by her endurance!

Difference is, Toronto FC earned the right to host that game with their regular season play. Ottawa was hand-picked in advance. But I still think they would have used the horn no matter who won.

No problem with Horn

Horn a great idea immo. Probably tested it when TSN not broadcasting - either before or after games.

Gotta realize Ottawa doesn't have pro baseball, no basketball, their hockey team is in tatters and their CFL team was eliminated by Saskatchewan this year - of all teams!

They do have Melissa Bishop (Olympic runner), Brook Henderson (LPGA golf champion) and Alannis Morissette plus Avril Lavigne. That's a pretty good celebrity entourage.

Now they have Rachel Homan & her fine crew.

Whether you're a fan of Team Homan, or another team, you can't really argue with this. As a Canadian, I feel like we're ultimately sending our best chance at gold.

I think that the fine people of Smith Falls may object to you characterizing Brooke ( with an e) as an Ottawan or Ottawite (what do they call themselves?)

Be glad they have televised the whole week. If you are an avid curler, you can figure out the first four shots.

Remember when we used to only see the finals or listen on the radio (well, I don't remember the radio part)

Thanks TSN for a whole week of curling!

AWESOME FINAL / ENDING

Feel real proud of Mikey McEwen - they really did everything right and Mikey put up a monster fight against the biggest monster curler on the planet (Koe)
No shame whatsoever.

Loved the crowd shots - especially with Dawn Askin (McEwen) sitting with her old skip - the immortal Jenn Hanna

And Jennifer Jones gets to go to Korea, albeit as a sidekick and diaper-changer!

Wonder if Team Homan will ask Jocelyn Peterman to go as their 5th - or are they bound to Kreviazuk?

Team Homan is one for the ages. Not only are they on track to create the greatest records in the history of the sport. They are even more importantly in my eyes already the greatest woman's sports team of all time. No woman's team in any sport have ever been as close to equal with the very best men's teams. In addition to being equal in shooting percentages and equally adept as the men at the power game, they are in fact ahead of the men's game in terms of strategy. Their use of the tick shot in the early ends has proved to be a devastatingly effective advance in terms of strategy. They have also been part of a very small elite group of curlers who have entrenched the use of multiple releases. This idea was anathema to Curl Canada and giants like Howard and Martin. Team Homan however has proved that this is the way forward for the game. From the pop release and the use of negative ice and hyper rotation for run-backs and peel weight doubles. To the more classic 'pure' release of yesteryear. This team can do it all.

Now that they have the weight of the pressure to qualify off their shoulders. Now that they have the extra belief that this accomplishment will give them, I expect that they will return to the tour and national championship arenas and dominate in a way that we have never seen before.

This is a dream team at every position and as long as they choose to they will be the standard against which all others will be judged.

Well said, JB. Well said!

Someone should come out with a t-shirt that shows a laser-focused Homan w/ caption that reads: "Anyone wanna get shot-pelted?"

you realize they won by one point dont you ?

also the teams that won in both men and womens curling in the past curled with inferior boots, brushes , etc and were amateurs - curling twice a week

these top 5 teams areprofessionals practising ever day for 6 months and funded by cc with lots of cash and physio and psychiatrists etc etc

the %s have not changed in 50 years so its possible that the best in the 50s 60s 70 s 80s 90s 2000s 2010s were and always will be the best ..

im not saying your wrong

im saying your totally wrong !

Really " Who cares who goes". I care. I was beside Rachel Holman at the bar in Ottawa at the Brier and she was a total bitch to the bartender who was volunteering his services. I was so embarrassed for her that I aplogized to the bartender and said that was not called for. He was so gracious. Sadly we are sending two skips to the Olympics that have ZERO personality. I'm cheering for Team Muirhead.

They have tons of personality...just not the extroverted, bubbly, social kind that puts people at ease. I do think it is interesting that the most intense, introverted, robotic types are the ones heading to the Olympics. Is it an advantage to have that mode?

yes they have personality and "rude" should not be one of them, to any person volunteering at at event.

How can you make a snap judgement about someone from witnessing one interaction? How do you know the bartender didn't start the rudeness earlier in the night? Or on some previous night? Maybe they had history. You can't know.

sorry still dont care - and hope whoever goes wins - but its good that others win too ..

would have been happy if an amateur team that got hot won - but cc and tsn and sportsnet have made that impossible for 30 years

funny , cant even think of an amateur team - menard , murphy, kennedy nb , koe nwt ,
- had to look thos up

til 20 years ago Manitoba's rep was always a different team - the odd double winner - it was fun to watch and the arena was packed and Manitoba got a share of Briers

Gushus 15x , Howard 12x , cotter 10 x Martin 8x , -pretty sure we are going downhill

fortunately there are young junior teams coming up - but if they close another 500 clubs in canada - watch tv drop it like a hot potato - obviously only in it for every$$$ they can squeeze out

think i will start a new forum - announced and rumored retirements ...

Hebert’s Brush

Just re-watched the end of the game from last night.

Does anyone know how far Hebert’s brush went when he launched it as Koe’s rock edged into the 4ft?!?

Given his lead weight ability he probably made a perfect centre guard on the next sheet!

yea i watched that silly exhibition at the end

reminded me of labonte jumping up and kicking meleshuk rock and losing the worlds

had kk rock been a little lighter - there were an awful lot of feet around it - mcewan team was entitled to a close look - ( and handshakes) before the uncontrolled exuberance

the broom looked like it may have gone as far as bens golf swing at the BDO ten years ago

into the stands 20 rows up into a lady - ben ran up and apologized - gave her the broken broom and later a new one

20,000 hits - not bad !!!

After watching the trials my sense is that the two teams that have the best chance of bringing home gold were selected. Perhaps not the most congenial of players but consistent top performers. It is important for top performance that the athletes not get emotional during the game. We saw some emotion post game from both teams.

We also saw some teams that could challenge in four years if they have a plan and implement it. Thinking of Scheidegger and Bottcher to name a couple.

Final comment; did anyone else get tired of Vic's ridiculous commentary.

Vic's been running the same schtick for nearly 30 years. You learn to tune him out - when required.

Scheidegger and Bottcher are good choices for the next cycle. Scheidegger requires enhanced performance training while Bottcher just needs another 1 or 2 years - could be the next Kevin Koe!

Scheidegger could also use an upgrade at 3rd - - - best merger already brought up - The Scheidegger sisters teaming with a smorgasbord of Kaitlyn Lawes, Joss Peterman, Kelcey Rocque.
