new schedule for Brier and Scotties

What do you think of the new schedules? I think generally it is an improvement although there are still problems. With the old schedule if we went to the Brier we would come home on Friday and watch the rest on TV as there was a lot of sitting around the final weekend. I think now the tendency (and we'll probably go to Kamloops) would be to go for the Thursday games through the final weekend. I think the Monday through Wed. portion would be slow with only two games a day. I would think the curlers must hate that part of it with only one game for many of them those days. In any event it will all change with new format in 2015 but all in all it is probably an improvement. Possibly the first Saturday could be eliminated with draws added to Monday and Tuesday? I also realize the live gate does not seem to be a concern to the CCA but empty arenas can't be good for the game or the sponsors.

I agree that the CCA is not interested in the live gate so I guess we have to consider the draw changes are merely a progression to something better. Personally, I will not be attending any more briers, as I liked being able to watch three games a day. Now I would have half the day off, which undoubtedly would cost me a lot more money to be at the event. I have not missed a brier since Calgary 1980, but sadly I will not be attending any more in AB. I guess TV has taken over the sport, as in all sports... so this new draw is what the CCA deems necessary for the game.

That is actually a good idea. Start the draw on Sunday and add games on Monday and Tuesday. Would maybe help fill the stands, do the hot shots on Saturday night and for those competitors who don't have flexible jobs, then that is one more day they don't need to take off work (assuming they arrive 1-2 days before it starts).

Eliminating Saturday is not going to happen. The reason the Mon-Wed morning games were taken out was because they were poor in attendance typically. Moving them to Friday creates a better weekend experience for fans.

The opening Saturday is typically a great day for attendance and the patch is full too. There was a line to get into the patch on Saturday night and they're not going to take away one of their top money producing days.

The schedule we have now is what I would expect in 2015 as well when they go to the relegation system. Thurs-Saturday morning could be your qualifying pool play, which may bring Friday into the mix as another good night for the patch.
