Thanks for the heads up. Quote button still not working. Remove or Fix/maybe. Should be a great event. What's at stake? .... besides money and points.

Does anyone know why Alison Flaxey's team seems to be playing without her?

Strange especially as they are defending champions...maybe Ott-Am who is friends with the Kreviasuk family knows.

Looks like possibly a few surprises with HOMAN, Sweeting, Englot on the verge of missing playoffs.

i dont know whats going on with rachel. they used to have the loss here and there in smaller events but them then at the slams you could almost write them into the playoffs. gone 2-6 in slams this year

jen makes the semis but she is not the force she once was. vulnerable to really anyone right now

sweeting has totally fallen off since their hot start and englot and flaxey have struggled all season

if these inconsistencies persist the trials will be really interesting and the door might be open for someone like einarson or scheidegger.

men are similar gushue looks good but not unbeatable. koe and carruthers are heating up after slow starts.

epping's been the biggest disappointment this season. im more convinced than ever this teams time is done after the season. where once i saw this team good enough to dominate ontario for years after howard last season ended poorly. this year they are yet to even make a final and are leaking steals against them. a bad trials and/or failure to win ontario again will seal the deal and im not sure anything can change that

ML, I just looked, Jen is one of two teams at 5-0. Two wins were over Paetz and Tirizoni, so your ratings don't seem all that rational.

Tirinzoni rolled through the Swiss Olympic trials undefeated including wins over Paetz, and thus Paetz ranks three spots higher, ML ?

so stupid - now we have to make a rule to speak English?

I don't need to go to any events, I don't care what they speak, it is not like it is a secret what they are trying to do. Any knowledgeable curler can figure it out.

Take some classes in speech from other countries.

I seem to remember Quebec team speaking English and French in both the Scottie's and Brier. Are they breaking the rules lmao!

language

Maybe the Canadian teams need to learn our native languages like Mi'kmaq or Inuit to speak in code so no other country can't understand our strategy?
Glooscap even has a curling club named after him.
Seriously..

Unusual that Homan was not at this slam, as she likely would have won it all.

Ajay, Homan was at this slam. Her team only won once in the round robin, failing to qualify for the playoffs.

National Teams

The lists of teams that will be playing in The National in Sault Ste. Marie from Nov. 14-19 came out earlier this week.
http://www.thegrandslamofcurling.co...boost-national/

In case anyone is wondering why so many ranked international teams have turned this one down, I've cross-checked schedules and I see that this clashes with the European Curling Championships which get underway Nov. 18. So that's where they'll be.

(Last year The National was later and avoided the clash. )

The U.S. Olympic Trials are also this week so if Shuster, Roth, or Sinclair we're eligible for this event, that is why they won't be going.

Thanks, Burned Broom. I meant to mention that and forgot to.

The cutoff was the rankings as of Week 9. Sinclair was no. 14 then, so would've got straight in.

Shuster was 18, McCormick 17, and Roth 21. So they ranked outside the top 14, however they were ranked higher than some of the teams that have got in thanks to all the European teams that will be absent.

I *HATE* the idea of putting a "major" (ie "Grand Slam") event opposite European Championships and US Trials.

That will penalize European and (to a lesser extent) US Teams in OOM standings, which just perpetuates the "If you aren't Canadian, you're crap" myth of that system.

As much as it pains me to say it, FIFA has it right on one thing...they have declared windows in the year where International Competition occurs, and the rest of the Soccer world shuts up and lets those games have the focus.

The Tour should coordinate such that European and Asian Championships, US Nationals and the Briar/Scotties have open weeks where there isn't a Tour event.

i see what you're saying but at the same time the beauty of this is that tere are some teams that will now get to compete here that wouldnt be able to because of the crappy ranking system in place.

mouat, liu and kim are having a fantastic season but because of the ranking system in place were not allowed to. some teams that have gotten in , in my opinion shouldnt be there. im thinking of englot, epping, sidorova, flaxey, morris, laycock, smith yes these are all good teams but have had lousy seasons and that should have some impact but it doesnt . im glad teams like mouat , kim and rocque are getting a chance to play here

Last season, there was no clash like this as they put The National in the first week of December where it was clear of the international events. That wouldn't work this time as that's when the Canadian Olympic Trials are. If it wasn't for the Olympics and the events leading to it, these clashes wouldn't be happening.

As for the OOM system penalizing non-Canadian teams, are you sure given the state of the current rankings that it's as much as all that? The number of points available is partly determined by a multiplication factor that rises or falls depending on the strength of the field. At present, on both the men's and women's sides, 12 of the Top 20 teams are Canadian and 8 are not. The absence of a number of highly ranked teams will therefore depress the multiplier for the National versus what it was for the Masters or the Tier I of the Tour Challenge. (It's not quite all 8 non-Canadians not turning up, as China's still coming, and for another example, Alina Paetz is too because Silvana Tirinzoni has the Swiss spot at the Euros.)
It looks like there's an additional multiplier for the Euros too, set at 35%, whereas the Slams only get 10%, so the European teams may in fact be playing for just as many points in the end as the teams at the Slam.

Dunstone

I see where Matt Dunstone (recently 2nd for SLaycock Team) is skipping a team in the MCT Fort Gary Industries 'Spiel - for points. Wondering if he is just "home for the weekend". Does that seem strange? Like... having two curling projects on the go in the same discipline (ie. Men's). I know musicians mix it up, but didn't know curlers did this. I doubt there is trouble in paradise and Flasch has landed on his feet, with pals, and is heading to the PreTrials. Just wondering if this is normal.
