CCA announces 2013 recipients of Curling Assistance Program

Twenty-four curling clubs across the country will benefit from funding from the Canadian Curling Association’s Curling Assistance Program (CAP), it was announced today.

The CAP is intended to help grow the sport of curling through programs at the community level, as well as contribute to capital projects at curling clubs to keep them operating at a high level.

The grants are awarded in two categories: Business Development and Bricks & Mortar.

“This is always one of the most rewarding announcements of the year,” said Canadian Curling Association Chief Executive Officer Greg Stremlaw. “The Curling Assistance Program is about building the sport at the grassroots level with our member facilities across the country. That’s where our world champions and Olympians come from, and keeping those facilities healthy is a priority.”

In addition to the 24 clubs, two Member Associations received grants to fund programs aimed at building the sport in their respective jurisdictions.

Some quick facts about this year’s grants:

• The CCA received 78 applications requesting $946,611 in funding.

• Of those 78 applications, there were seven applications for Business Development Grants requesting $66,643 and there were 71 applications for Bricks & Mortar Grants requesting $879,968.

• The CCA granted five Business Development Grants totalling $26,800 and 21 Bricks & Mortar Grants totalling $228,400 for a total of $255,200.

• Applications were received from facilities and associations in 12 of the CCA’s 14 Member Associations, and grants were awarded to facilities in nine of those Member Associations.
