Manitoba Scotties: Jennifer Jones vs. Michelle Montford
AAAAAAAAAND We're back at the request of my favorite Gingers parents Mrs. McEwen. The approval to say some questionable things has been given so I've asked a special guest Mr. Mike McEwen to jump in with some game insights in here. -Hodgy

FIrst end was a little boring, one miscue by Jones led to a force of one. Well played by Montford. 1-0 Jones after one.

Montford in tough in the second end. JJ slithers by the centre guard 3 times with some well pounded stones to set up a sure steal. Montford doesn't have much and surrenders a steal of 3. Deep behind the 8 ball early.

Mr.Mike relaxes a bit as Jonesy makes a mean angle tap to the pin buried. Montford only has a slash double to score one. Stuffs it right on the pin hole. Another steal of 1 for Jones.

Jones sitting 3 on Montfords first skip stone. Slices one around the Jones pair back 4 foot for shot. JJ follows it smoothly onto the back of the button and Montford plugs it right on the can to get on the board.

Let's try and be a little positive here! It's a heck of a lot of fun to be here in Winkler at this event.

im sure it is fun to be there. but that doesnt change the fact that a lot of games have been very one sided. can hope that the playoffs will be more competitive

Jones has been doing the little things exceptionally well thus far. Managing the arena conditions like you would expect. It's not an easy transition from curling club playing ice to Ewasko's world class arena that curls 7 feet and is hella fast.

im not specifically referring to jen. i expected her to what she's been doing. its more a comment on the event in general. its usually not this bad

A lot of offensive play has led to the high scores. At least its entertaining to watch a lot of the ends!

I don't think Jennifer has had a playdowns quite like this before - and she's been in a ton of them!
Universally adored (by the Winkler crowd anyways) and playing like she did at the Olympics (shutout hockey). . . . JJ is the biggest Manitoba sports superstar on the planet (apologies to Jonathan Toews) - - - now she's just gotta finish the job and make her way to STOH.
Knocking off these club curlers, veteran roadkill and glorified fawns is one thing - facing monsters like Rachel Homan and Val Sweeting is another.
Einarson is running hot on the other side so you never know what can happen in a one game showdown.
But for now there's only one reason fans came in droves to Winkler - and her name starts with a J.
she is most definately not the biggest manitoba sports superstar on the plant. many more people know jonathan toews than jenniffer jones. cindy klassen id also say is higher up on the popularity latter as is jeff stoughton

Well, you might be right on Toews. He's got a gold medal, a junior gold, a couple Stanley Cups and he's only 25 or 26. Also from St. Vital btw.
But Toews doesn't participate in Manitoba championships (he was an American college junior) like Jones. . . . and might only play the Jets 2 or 3 times a year.
Cindy Klassen & the gal who won Olympic medals as a cyclist and speed-skater are also very popular. However, Klassen now resides in Alberta and has been retired or dormant last couple years. The other gal lives in Quebec and has been retired for quite some time.
I'd put Jones and Toews on equal footing, Kaitlyn Lawes #3, Jill Officer #4, Andrew Harris #5 (BC Lions), then Cindy K, Dawn McEwen and the cyclist/speed-skater.
Of course you would but your delusional and cant decide on anything to do with jj subjectively. There is jo way in hell a curler is on the same level as a hockey player in terms of recognition and popularity. Toews is most dedinately more popular than her. I also laugh taht you think lawes, officer or mcewen are more popular than cindy klassen or jeff stoughton. If you had a choice to headline an event with a manitoba star you would certainly go with stoughton or klassen over lawes, officer or mcewen.those 2 would draw more people for sure
Only in your world does jill officer attract more attention than cindy klassen

Clara Hughes and Cindy Klassen are amazing Winnipeg athletes but if I was planning a sports dinner right now I'd book Toews & Jones ahead of them - well ahead I might add. I'd put Kaitlyn Lawes & Officer ahead of the retired skaters, too. Officer has been JJ's chief lieutenant for the better part of two decades and she's been there for Jenny thru thick and thin. She also has a graceful and friendly presence so she'd be my choice for speaker ahead of even Lawes. Kaitlyn is still fairly young - I don't think she's got public speaking skills - yet! Still a graceful and enthusiastic presence at any event be it sports, politics, community openings, etc.
Stoughton's time has passed (he'll have a chance to prove me wrong soon) and Mike McEwen is 35 and other than a waft of cash spiels he's yet to win a Manitoba title, let alone compete in a brier.
The top footballers who'd draw big crowds are Andrew Harris of the BC Lions and Israel Idonije who grew up in Brandon, starred for the U of M Bisons in Canadian college ball and then went directly into the NFL where he enjoyed a nice 10+ year career.
Regardless of how long officer has been with jen she is still jot that big a draw on her own. Retired yes but klassen and stoughton would still get better attendance
Like it or not when it comes to curlers skips get all the attention and so when you ask someone go name a culer you often find they will name skips. The casual curlint fan doesnt kjow by heart every member of a team.
But this is a silly thing to get in to and i feel stupid for doing so

Kaitlyn Lawes and Officer would be huge draws at any sports-related event - be it a charity dinner, sports memorabilia convention or other such event. Lawes, despite her youth has such a natural charm - I think she'd be a bigger hit at any event west of the Ontario-Manitoba border than even Emma Miskew. Remember, Cheryl Bernard who hardly played in any STOH's and won silver at the Vancouver Olympics is a big draw just because she went down to last brick for Olympic gold.
Ypu are way over rating both of them in the popularity department. I have had conversations with many people who i had to remind them who jill officer for example is even now.

I couldn't disagree more. MBLegend is actually right and Misty1 you couldnt be further off. Jonathan Toews is a superstar. One of the elite athletes in the world. But he lacks the personality and charisma. Most people would associate him as being Canadian before Manitoban/Winnipegegger/St Boniface/etc.
Jennifer Jones has the big personality. She is on more commercials, has more local recognition. She is the biggest name in all of Curling. I can't tell you how many friends who were oblivious to curling who now know of Jennifer Jones. The fact we are even debating an elite NHL player and a curler should show the level Jennifer has reached.
Cindy Klassen is not even remotely near the popularity ladder nor is Jeff Stoughton. I am surprised one could even try to make a relevant argument with those two over JJ at this time.
