I love watching Japanese events; they generally have high production values and love that they want to share these events with the world; that's the way to do it.

That's not generally true of ALL Japanese events. NHK usually geoblocks their national championship coverage, i.e. the opposite of sharing with the world, you have to be in Japan to watch them.

That's not unique to Japan, of course. CBC sometimes geofences Canada, SVT sometimes geofences Sweden, etc.

Many countries livestream their major national championships (Switzerland, Russia, etc.), but Canada remains unique in sharing their major championships on YouTube despite contractual obligation to major TV network like TSN. Most other countries do NOT share with the rest of the world if their championship is covered by TV contract.
