How would Homan do at the Brier?

Would never happen but lets speculate on how Rachel Homan and some other famed womens teams would fare at this year's Brier championships.

My best guess on Homan is 5-6 or 6-5, she wouldn't make playoffs but she'd edge out the bottom feeders and give decent games to some contenders.

Others (at their best)

Jennifer Jones 4-7

Colleen Jones 3-8 (too defensive)

Sandra Schmirler (6-5, possibly 7-4, the only team on my list to have a shot at a tie-breaker or the 3-4 game)

Shannon Kleibrink 2-9

Cheryl Bernard 1-10

Kelly Scott 3-8

Connie Laliberte 2-9

Heather Houston 1-10

Krista McCarville 0-11

Pat Sanders 2-9

Heather Nedohin 3-8, probably 2-9

Sherri Middaugh 1-10

Stef Lawton 4-7

Andrea Schoepp 2-9

Elisabet Gustafson 3-8

Big Mama Sweden 3-8

Princess Muirhead 4-7

Nordberg would the best probably. She has the most tools to take ona top mens team. Schmirler would do second best. Not sure either would have made the playoffs though unless it were a weak year for the Brier.

I posed this same question on Twitter. General consensus seemed to be that she would finish just outside playoffs.

Some felt she'd make it in, but I really couldn't see Homan beating AB/MB/ON, and seems pretty unlikely she'd beat NO or NL either.

Even if we give her ONE of those games, she's still 1-4 and has to win out against some difficult teams in SK/NWT that are must-win games, and there's certainly no guarantees against any of the remaining teams either.

When you actually parse it out, 5-6 actually seems optimistic, but it's certainly doable.

I would pay money to see Homan versus a top men's team. Make it a sideshow at next year's Skins game. Howard versus Homan for battle of Ontario.

Best woman's team in some time

As a 6 time Brier Player I would say

Losses against the Top Teams and a toss up against
The bottom teams

Best Guess 4 or 5 wins

JJ could also win 4 or 5

Any other past champs win 2 maybe

I think people are being unrealistic about this.

I love curling, men or women, I have huge respect for anyone at the top level, men or women, and I really love Homan's team and their style and I hope they dominate for years to force an improvement in the women's game.

But I can't see them squeaking out more than 1 or 2 wins at best against a Brier field if you could somehow make the games worth something and not just an exhibition.

Women's teams will never catch up on arm strength for sweeping, and team Homan plays up weight which helps with the run back game, but average (good) men can throw even more just as accurately. Sweeping would be big, giving every draw shot an extra few feet of leeway, shot after shot.

That being said, among sports at the top level Homan is closer to the top men than many others. For example, the best female soccer and hockey teams (world and olympic champions) are barely competitive with teams of half decent 16 and 17 year old boys.
