Alberta Upset??

Sweeting gone!! beat by Kleibrink in the 3-4!! Cary gets beat by Scheidegger in the 1-2!! Now Cary plays Kleibrink in the semi. I'd say that was a couple of upsets. Would be nice to see Scheidegger win out as she has been close many times before.

And there will be no team Carey at the Scotties. Lots of top seeds not making it...trials burn out. Should have scheduled the scotties later.

shannon kleibrink keeps the magic going. demolished sweeting in the 3 v.s 4 now comes back to take out carey in the semis.

just fantastic hit and roll by shannon on her last. great game overall. the difference in quality between this semi and manitoba was night and day too. manitoba was a game of misses. alberta was a game of great shots made.

chelsey , by order of her ranking on the strs standings will have another shot at getting to the scotties. you have to feel for jocelyn peterman though. lost the olympic trials final and went down in the mixed doubles semis and here.

Yes it looks like Jones is going to Scotties for sure. By being in the final, she either wins Manitoba or gets the CTRS seed.
If Jones wins Manitoba then Carey gets CTRS seed. Carey has to hope for a Jones win.

jones and carey both have a second shot. they are the top 2 teams so, going in they both had 2 chances. kerri einarson i believe is third so she should be hoping jones wins. that way it would be carey v.s einarson in that second chance game. if jones loses it's carey v.s jones. Im sure chelsey would also rather play kerri over jen in that second chance game

on a side note on the manitoba game . i really feel like what's holding einarson back is the weakness at 3rd. every single time i watch an einarson game i hear the commentators talking about how it's an off day for selena or she's struggling today. perhaps we might see kerri seek out kaitlyn to replace her if, as many suspect jen does retire after this year

CTRS seed

Is it the top team guaranteed entry or do top 2 CTRS teams have a 1 game playoff. If so that would be team Einarson vs Carey. If Joins loses then Carey vs Jones

sorry I was incorrect. There is a playoff as described above instead of a direct birth.

Depends on the cut off date, a few teams could move up with a win or second in the slam next week

Points cut off date is tomorrow.... So teams will move a little bit depending on the provincial results which do count as CTRS points events I believe.

If Scheidegger were to win, would it really be considered an upset? They've been one of the better teams in Canada over the last 12 months.

Not including the wildcard entry,JJ could pick up a club champion from Twinkletoestown and still give the rest of the field a run for their money.

Agree about Einarson - but if any team needs additional coaching its Einarson. They don't really have any kind of game plan; just a bunch of decent throwers tossing rocks and making decisions on the fly. Kaatz is particularly weak but I also expected more from Fyfe. Kaatz & Einarson were barely speaking to each other today.

They have little to no chance to topple Carey for the CTRS-bonus spot; I'd rate them as having a 12 to 15% chance to topple the Carey Gang - I think I'd be high!

Jones getting married (again) and having a couple kids on the carpet has hurt her. No doubt. She lives in Ontario and her team doesn't get to practice together. Her icing and rock positioning continues to plague her. If she plays another season - I can't see her getting much better without consistent practice like they did to their Olympic gold medals.
Jones has always been sketching on ice-reading and weight calls. . . . now, at 43 she appears unable to hit the broom on a regular basis. Still good enough to slither by glorified club curlers like Robertson, Einarson, Brown, etc. but the real test will be a STOH field devoid of toughs like McCarville, possibly Carey, Homan, Lawton, Val Sweeting, Kleibrink, Rocque, etc.
Now, reading in a new 3rd, that just gives JJ another beautiful excuse for in-game breakdowns!

ML?

Pretty sure this was the Alberta upset thread not the jones manitoba thread for a change

Not an upset but the future of AB curling. Sweeting, Carey and Roque will be part of it but happy to see new blood win and get a chance to prove themselves at the Scotties. There's no Ontario thread so just to give my 2 cents there after watching the games online, Ontario must be very thankful they got rid of relegation. They will not make the playoff round. Manitoba almost suffered the same fate.

Shannon really boxed herself in on that extra end, didn't she?
Even with the fluke runback by K Park on her clearing shot.

Shannon appeared terrified to clear the front and played like she was the one without the hammer. She gave Jess a relatively makeable shot to get shot - and left herself a virtually impossible short angle runback.

Expected a bit more from a decorated vet like Shannon K - not letting herself get boxed in.
