Pretty much like the Top 5. Can't put Einarson over Jones - cuz Jones had a wonderful cash & slam season going (mostly due to Homan refusing to peak prior to the Trials).
Jones was pretty much mush at the Trials - losing her final 3 matches - and with clarity.
With Homan riding side-saddle during the cash season - Jones had enough ammo in the chamber to take the duke - she really didn't look good at times but it was still good enough to capture all those events.
If she plays like she did in the final 3 games of the trials or like she did at last year's Manitoba Scotties in Charleswood - she'll easily fall prey to Einarson or Robertson, maybe even Birchard or The Brianes.
If she doesn't capture Manitoba she'll be focused on slithering thru the final exemption spot based on her CTRS pts.

Jones team

IS Katelyn still able to play? Is there not a conflict with the Can. Scotties and Olympics??? Ie : how soon does she have to leave for the games. There is only 5 days between events. How does this effect Team Jones? Who would replace her??

Technically she could still play Scotties - BUT - she just went thru 13 or 14 gruelling games - against some pretty scary opponents and having to work with one of the biggest emotional vampires ever to sit foot on a curling lane!

Jones prolly went into panic mode when Sweeting flubbed her last rock and Kaitlyn became bound for South Korea.

Not much to chose from in terms of Manitoba ladies who could play at a level even close to K Lawes. Jennifer Clarke-Rouire (longtime spare and skip at a lower level in her own right) is probably the logical add.

At this point I'd no longer have JJ rated #1 in the event - perhaps #3 or #4.

But she's still Jennifer Jones. Wildly brilliant, wildly erratic, wildly aggressive, wildly passive (when protecting leads).

I think the one road that leads to another Manitoba title for Jones involves down-grading her wild aggressions and laying out a more conservative game plan. ie. don't let Jennifer beat Jennifer.

Well, that didn't take long!

Only took a couple draws for Jones to absorb her first whipping - going down 9-4 to a lamb named Janelle Brown.

Gave up a 4 ender late - as she was tied and obviously, true to JJ form she went wildly berserk throwing caution to the wind and got stung by Brown.

Probably all it takes for Jones to sink into BAD JJ mode - is for someone to whisper to her 'the ice is really unpredictable". Game over!

Suspect she'll still find a way to cobble her way into the page playoffs.

Just don't know if she can cure her erratic form by then!

Alberta Scotties

With Rachel Homan on her way to South Korea and Jennifer Jones looking weak it appears Val Sweeting could be powering up for a major run at her first Scott Tournament of Hearts.

Val should be the prohibitive favourite in Alberta - Chelsea Carey can give her a test but Carey, like Jones is an erratic performer with no real defined strategy.

Interesting to note Laura Crocker is now skipping the Rocque outfit . . . . but Rocque is still tossing skip stones. Crocker has an incredible demeanour but she's been proven out to be a less than stellar shot-maker. Several very good teams in Alberta, maybe 7 or 8 who could give Val a run for her money. However, Rocque, Scotland or Scheidegger will probably serve as Val's opponent in the Alberta final.

If Val can get by she'll be co-favourite at the STOH - assuming Krista McCarville gets thru in N. Ontario. Can't see any of the remaining Ontario teams being favoured, same with the other provinces. Kesa Van Osch will be a hometown favourite but does she have enough shots.

After Sweeting & McCarville I'd tip my hat to Michelle Englot - but experience and savvy are one thing. Can she convert her paltry 60 to 73% shooting average into wins? If so, she'll be around come the weekend - but I don't think she has the shot arsenal she somehow conjured up last year in going 10-1, defeating Homan twice and almost erasing Homan in the grand finale.

I can assure you CB that Coco won't emerge from Nova Scotia.

After an early win - Coco is starting to get squashed by most comers (fawns & lambs alike)

Love what she did - skipping herself, bringing old 3rd Kim Kelly back at 3rd and re-storing Nancy Delahunt to lead.

Frankly, I don't think this would be that good a senior team. Neither Jones nor Kelly seem able to finish critical shots anymore.

Kelly is throwing 4th, Delahunt is lead and skipping. Jones is 3rd and sweeping 6 rocks.

Hmm not that good a senior team eh...but good enough to win the 2017 World Senior Women's Curling Championship.

Can't understand why ML. keeps trying to put his foot in his mouth.

First he flat - out states that Colleen's current team would not be that good as a seniors team. When he made this statement was he not aware that her current team actually is the 2017 World Senior Women's Champions? How could he possibly not know this?

Then he tells us that Colleen is skipping herself, bringing back Old Kim Kelly at 3rd ( how crass is this ) and re-storing Delahunt. Again, nothing could be further from the truth. And whether he's speaking literally or figuratively, its still gobbledegook.

Being a diehard Jones fan, likely the old codger is unaware of other curlers accomplishments. MB should be interesting, Jones is not top of the heap. Should be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Some sweet outcomes possible

Rachel Homan's abdication of the STOH throne to head to defend Canada's Olympic gold has opened the door for Manitoba.

1. Michelle Englot already in as runner-up to Homan at last year's STOH

2. Manitoba Winner goes to BC STOH - could be Jones, could be Einarson, could be Birchard, could be Spencer. If its NOT Jones then #3

3. Jones prolly slithers in (albeit without her main weapon Kaitlyn) as the CTRS pts leader - or has to play off to get in

4. Chelsea Carey and Manitoba's own Cathy O now in command at the Alberta Scotties - manhandling Val Sweeting tonite.

So the Manitoba contingent at STOH could look something like this

1. Team Englot
2. Team Manitoba
3. Team Jones (sans Lawes)
4. Team Carey/Cathy O

While none of them can compete at the level of Rachel Homan they all have their upside:

1. Englot is a gritty campaigner who knows its pretty much now or never at 54

2. Team Manitoba might be just ready to make playoffs before succumbing to superior talent (Carey, McCarville, etc.)

3. Team Jones still provides excitement and drama wherever they're drawn. Jones has morphed into an unforced error machine and prolific risk-taker but she can create a ton of damage - even without Miss Lawes. Rarely does this woman NOT make playoffs.

4. Carey can win it all - she's already got one feather under her cap. Just has to slide by either Sweeting or Scheidegger to advance. Her stiffest competition will undoubtedly come from McCarville and possibly one of the Manitoba contingent but without Homan - Carey (or Sweeting) should be favoured by the oddsmakers!

Pretty good analysis...but should Carey get out of AB, she will be the prohibitive favourite.

Carey might be the favourite - BUT NOT the prohibitive favourite. If she comes out of CTRS pts she'll be seeded lower than Val, should Val nab Alberta.
And if Val nabs Alberta she'd be co-favourites with McCarville.

Englot looks to be embarrassing herself at the event in London. 10x worse than what JJ has deteriorated to. Not even close on takeouts, and her draw game has abandoned her. If I was in charge of that team I might consider letting Katie Cameron toss last rocks and have Englot call the game. This a.m. vs the Japanese she was horrid.

Spencer or her sister are grizzled veterans of Manitoba play with a few STOH appearances between them; I'd put them at the level of Harrison, Cadorin or the like out of Ontario. They won't scare the field.

Meillieur or Birchard (misty's favourite) are both good young bucks but have relatively stiff and inflexible styles. Prolly .500 teams - AT BEST.

Jones - w/ Lawes a formidable team hosting an now-erratic and sketchy skip. Without Lawes they could be anywhere from 4-8 to 7-5 in round-robin.

Team world must be estatic to see Englot playing for team NA. I feel that if Carey or Sweeting get out of AB, they will win.

Englot will provide walkover services as STOH's Team Canada. Her play was more than embarrassing - TSN certainly made the wrong call in featuring her a couple times thus far. Don't think they want to make the same mistake again.
Can't hit the broom - can't get her weight down - other than that she's been outstanding!

Money in the bank for Team World.

Appears Jennifer Jones has slinked her way into the 1-2 game vs. Keri Einarson at the Manitoba Scotties in Killarney.

Slow start for JJ - but she's starting to catch fire and should be able to give Einarson everything Keri can handle in the 1-2. Actually most would favour Jones but I can't. Jones is obviously off the great form she possessed just 2 or 3 years ago. No matter how clenched, grim and agitated she can become she's still a rock solid field general. Einarson may be a sharper hitter than Jen today - also have some better draw weight (Jones has abused both her hitting and draw game this season) but Jones, as most know can rise up like a hela monster when everyone expects her to be buried alive. Big advantage for JJ at 3rd w/ Lawes over the still-nervous Selena Kaatz - and obvious JJ has the 2nd or 3rd best front end in womens curling.
I expect Einarson to crack Jones for an early 2 or 3 - which will send Jones into a wild and crazy risk-taking adventure. . . . . one that may just cost her the game!

Two other does remain in Manitoba contention but neither should win. (or Manitoba curling is really in trouble). The two super fawns (Meilleur & Birchard) are still not strong enough to stand up to either Jones or Einarson. Give them another couple years.
In Alberta - it appears it comes down to the form chart. Chels Carey stands heads and shoulders above all comers but Val Sweeting is still in the mix- having just polished off a game but under-powered group of super-smurfs (Crocker/Rocque).
Either Sweeting or Carey will be favourites or co-favorites in BC - so hear you have a province where even the loser would be no worse than 3rd or 4th in the STOH field. Shannon Kleibrink is still sticking around, too!

In N. Ontario - its basically comes down to McCarville vs. Fleury. Little Tracy is the prohibitive underdog though. McCarville should take the duke, although her forte is no doubt defensive curling - she should have enough to polish off the game but unexpressive Fleury. Krista's big advantage is at 3rd stone - where her player stands well above the game but under-powered Crystal Webster, a consistent 73 to 80% player.

Sorry, got the wrong sister. Robertson is in the 3-4 game not her sister Spencer Barb. I didn't mention Brown - Joelle had an excellent chance of going straight to the 1-2 game but she couldn't handle a group of waifs in her last rr game. She won't be a factor with Einarson & Jones both still around.
