Noticed while watching the Tour Challenge that all four members of Team Jacobs are wearing Nike shoes.

AFAIK, Nike does not make curling shoes, so are the Team Jacobs shoes custom made?

Don't they have a shoe sponsor? Goldline?

If they do have a shoe sponsor, then why would a shoe sponsor let them compete on TV in Nike shoes?

They were likely still made by Goldline, as most shoe companies can mount sliders and grippers on any type of shoe.

I'm also pretty sure Goldline doesn't particularly care, given the "Goldline" everywhere on their gear, their brooms, and their exposure(Jacobs being all over Goldline promotional materials, etc.).

I'm sure Goldline wouldn't be super pumped if they wore a BalancePlus shoe, but given that Nike is not a direct competitor in the curling realm, I doubt they mind.

Their new uniforms were lost/misplaced in transit, hence their wearing their gym clothes on the ice. It wouldn't surprise me if their shoes were with the other gear and they improvised a solution.

They in fact were all wearing Nike shoes with Balance Plus sliders.

I curl with a guy who every couple of years buys brand new Nikes or Acics and takes them to someone to put a slider and a gripper on the bottom.
He swears by it and says it's more comfortable and less bulky than regular curling shoes.

What about using wrestling shoes for this?

They are light weight and flexible. They even have some ankle support. The on done side I can think of would be a lack of insulating material causing your feel to be cold and possibly warming/melting the ice. My feet rarely get cold do you think adding a gripper pod and slider would be enough to keep from damaging the ice? Other possible solutions/problems?
