Arena Question

When watching coverage of the larger arena events, I get the impression that the audience in actual attendance can sometimes hear the TV commentators and/or the players on mics. How exactly does this work? Do attendees get headphones to plug into the audio somehow? Is it through a smartphone app of some sort?

Also, does anyone know if they'll be doing this at the National in Sault Ste Marie this year? I'm thinking of maybe going.

Oftn the broadcast is put out through a radio signal and can be picked up using an AM/FM radio.
