Widely respected curling official, Mike Kirkeby, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday night. A heart attack at the age of 64 robbed us. A great guy, a great clubmate and the son of one of the greatest guys I've ever met...I will miss him.
My sincerest condolonces to all of Mike's family...especially his daughter, Loren, who's wedding is coming up soon.
Mike officiated the Club Nationals in Chicago this year. What a great guy! He had the unique ability to be everyone's friend and yet demand the respect of all of the competitors. From the limited time I spent with him, my guess is that those qualities were evident to his family and friends as well.
