ASHAM US Open of Curling

The Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine, Minnesota is hosting the ASHAM US Open of Curling this weekend and it's another great field there.

A very interesting international field of teams, many of which are heading to the Canadian Open Grand Slam next week highlight the event. China's Bingyu Wang, Alina Paetz of Switzerland, Chiaki Matsumura of Japan join top USA team and Canadian teams like Tracy Fleury, Sherry Middaugh and Theresa Breen.

The men's field is lacking the strength of the past due to teams skipping it for the Grand Slam, but teams like Matt Dunstone, Willie Lyburn, Shaun Meachem are all looking for important Olympic Trials qualifying points.

Present

I'm here keeping an eye on the early sheets of the alphabet as this women's field is about to start play. They're starting about 30 minutes late as the early men's matches ran long.

Home is only 45 minutes away for me here. Much better than the 9 hours to the Soo a few weeks ago.

Congratulations Sherri and team for winning the Women's side...hopefully your team will get through the Challenge round in Ontario, Provincials in Cobourg and we will see you in St. Catharines!

I was hoping to volunteer at the Scotties this year but the paying job got in the way.
