Mens olympics

Miss the doubles already. Four ends to get one point. Pretty boring.

How can skill possibly be boring compared to fluke ?

Funny how 7 teams can suddenly appear and give the best team a good game

id like to play billiards with mike for about $1000 ball

if stretch had curled another1 inch he would have made mikes " impossible " shot - to be fair he is at least speaking his mind

alas the ice is acting up again - must have been 20 shots that pulled up short tonight - a few in the ee when it counts

Mixed Doubles is for people with very short attention spans - kind of like 'reality' tv shows - there is very little substance there.
Regular curling uses more of the brain - it is 'chess on ice'...

Mixed doubles is like junk food, or fast food - cheap, prepared quickly with all sorts of questionable ingredients, tastes like plastic, does the body more harm than good, and leaves you still feeling hungry...
whereas regular curling is like a full, healthy meal - it may take longer to prepare, and longer to eat, but it is much more tasty, far more filling, and is much healthier.

YOWZA, that game last night against Italy was pure excitement. Was on the edge of my seat for hours just hoping somebody, anybody would be able to score a point. Even the CBC colour man, who hardly knows the difference between the hog line and the button, was thrilled. He described Koe, perhaps the best Skip in the world, in one word: stoical. Benny seems to be the only team member who ever shows some emotion but even that is infrequent. After that it goes downhill quickly until we're only left with Mr Excitement himself.

Italy's win over Switzerland showed they are here to curl! They gave Koe a game last night...fortunately all that thoughtful pondering over every shot put them to sleep.

All Canadian games seem to go to the last shot...while it is good to see the team giving their opinion on every shot? Can't Kevin just make a decision and the team throw the rock?

It took me awhile to get used to it - BUT that's their process! From Laing's 2nd brick to Koe's final stone - the team discusses all shots (unless in a time crunch) thru & thru. . . . sometimes they'll even discuss Laing's first stone. Seems annoying and unnecessary but Kevin lacks the full confidence to call is own game. All four guys are skips and that's their recipe/process!

*whispering*... Cda lost to Swe in the middle of the night, 5 to 2. Missed it. Not much chatter about the skip's calls or team's play. *still whispering* ... #goCdaGo

The Discussion Group (Koe) went down to their first defeat in the middle of the night.

Hard to win when your opponent - a world-class monster bowls a perfect game!

O well, better the Discussion Group loses in the R.R. vs. Playoffs.

Watched the game. Sweden won the game, Canada didn't lose it. Sweden curled near 100% as a team.

Hebert

He needs to worry less about calling the game from the far end and more on his own shots. Back 12 is not top 4 and back button is not a guard.

Well.... not sure, but I think they overthought the shot on the 9th to lie 3. A guard guaranteed them one. A steal. Still in tough, but - well, the decision to not come behind on 10 was the clincher. Keep it simple. #GoCdaGo

I honestly don't think that the rest of the Koe rink has ever taken a suggestion from Hebert. Mostly his suggestions are hail mary's.

Team Koe is playing great and I will be astonished if they don't make the gold medal game. After giving up the four they were pretty much flawless. Moral of the story, don't give up four. To call it rare is to understate the case by a lot. Sure they lost but they played at a level that is gonna be damn hard to beat. It was the kind of loss that only sharpens your game.

The game against Team Sweden was to put it simply a classic. Awesome curling by both sides. It is the kinda of game that you dream of playing in, and the kind of game that you care least about losing. Sure you'd rather win, always. But if you are any kind of curler at all you'd rather be on the losing end of that kind of game than winning ugly in a **** show.

As to their play calling. Aside from the FGZ the best thing that the brothers Howard brought to the game was democracy. When I was a kid a curling team was run like a dictatorship or a corporation or a military unit. I.e. Shut up and follow orders. Seriously it was that bad, and it was the convention everywhere, and woe unto those who didn't follow suit. They were instantly and always labelled "bad teammates".

Russ and Glenn didn't curl that way, and Glenn took it to a whole new level when he took over his own team. As a result no team had better chemistry and no team has ever been better able to come back from adversity. Slowly but surely this innovation spread across the curling landscape and now is the norm.

As a result, finally, every player is now fully engaged. Used to be a lead and second threw their rocks, swept, and paid as little attention as humanely possible lest they see something they felt the need to share. Now every player is fully engaged in reading the ice, remembering the paths, and contributing to the strategy. As a result every position is more properly understood to be the critical component to success that it is and always was in reality.

Team Koe is completely devoted to the Howard system and the better for it. I can also guarantee you that they are also far less stressed now than they were curling for Martin. Kevin understood the advantages of this innovation but, shall we say, didn't find it the easiest change to make.
