Elite

Keeping hearing people call some curlers, "elite curlers" and others "club curlers" like its a lower form of curler.
Is there a process or can I just call myself a "elite curler"

IMHO like golf, if you don't have a solid "regular" base the "elite" won't last long.

Curling broadcasts on TSN this year have had more average viewers then the NHL. It's not "club curlers" that viewers are tuning in to watch, it's "elite curlers" who are playing at the highest level the game has ever seen. They busted their ass to reach those heights, so what's the problem?

1. Without a solid base of curlers, curling clubs will close (we've seen a lot of that in Toronto)
2. Without curling clubs, there is no system for developing "elite" junior curlers.
3. Without "elite" junior curlers, the "elite" rinks that we
now watch on TV will simply get older....not better.
4. Without a solid base of "Club" Curlers, the ratings for TV curling that right now are so attractive will disappear.

That's why "Club" curlers matter.

That's why "Club" curlers matter.

Who said they didn't?? This is off topic for what the OP was asking. What tangible impact does being an "elite" curler have with clubs closing? That's mainly an urbanization and demographics issue.
