What will Kaitlyn Lawes do when Jones retires?

This is one thing I will be interested to follow as she is still quite young, and might want to be a skip again. Jones's retirement probably isnt super far off, it might well be after 2018, at the latest though after 2022. I predict it would be either after 2018 or 2022 simply since for the most part the curlers seem to time their retirements around the Olympics today, or retire when they dont make Trials, etc...

I think quite likely Jill Officer would retire whenever Jones does, so that would pretty much nix the chances of staying with the team sans Jones. I could see her skipping her own team again, and going to whichever province the best chance becomes available, although I dont know as much about her work situation as some others here might. What do you think?

You certainly raise a good point that Lawes could decide to leave Jones and go back to skipping on her own. I personally just dont see it though. I do see her staying with Jones until she retires. Just a feeling I have.

depends for me on who she picks up or if she will. i cant imagine kaitlyn wont continue on. she's still young

question is where she will curl out of

if she stays in manitoba there are plenty of options for her. someone like her im sure teams will jump at the chance to work with.

she could maybe link up with the birchard rink. manitoba's best young team by far right now

The team could be under contract until after the trials and depending on what happens, could be able to make decisions based on the trials result.

Dawn too could decide to move on, a talented front end player like her would be in demand. Kaitlyn might do well with a skip who lets her call the line at Vice or she might venture into skipping her own team.

We shall see, but guaranteed there will be lots of movement in January 2018!

agreed, but question is does she want to skip, does she feel the need to skip again, or would she be happy to settle into being a 3rd again with the right team (I cant imagine her accepting being a front end player on any team at this point, not a chance).

At least some people don't realize just how much of a fire engine Lawes is.

ML, you are selling Englot short, she did make the TOH Final remember.

It is hard to speculate but like the opening post (and others) have said, points matter. Keeping three of a team together keeps the points together. Reconfiguring with a fresh slate (fall 2018) makes sense, otherwise it gets to be team politics. What is the rule about "taking points with you" if your team splits up? Players like Morris, Simmons, CathyO, have moved around a lot. Do they have "points" that they can offer, in addition to their ability?

I think Krista McCarville should take a page out of fellow Northerner Brad Jacobs play book. Move her talented third (Lilly/EJ), with strong sweeping skills, down to second and greatly improve the front end.

Pick up a Lawes to be her Ryan Fry.

After the Trials of course.

The thing people seem to forget is that all teams are going to look quite different after next season, let alone after 2022. How many of the current top women's teams do you see sticking together in full after the Olympic cycle? Homan and who?

At this time next year, I'll be shocked if any of these teams are the same as they are now.

Your not going to see much movement in January when the season is almost over. players will move after the season
