Curlers are of hearty stock - no problems going from super-warm hotel room to pre-warmed spiel committee 4 x 4.

Will endure that horrific 25 second walk from arena loading zone to athlete's entrance!

A true test of commitment!

Fans advised to start vehicles at the 4th end break!

the tv times are listed in edt and pt , the Open site lists cdt and anyone can win

so there is a definite possibilty that at 11:30 thurs in Winterpeg

we will see gushue v koe or edin v carruthers

at a later time koe will beat carruthers which will be the same result as the roar later in the year....

absolutely guaranteed - bet the farm

the odds are similar to the Lotto Max. draw for $60 million every week

1 in 1.2 trillion that they will draw a winning set of jackpot numbers

in last nights games 3 of the 4 games were determined by 3s , the other game by 2 deuces

shuster s 3 in first held up thou reid got a 3 later

i bet that with the 5 guard rule that most games are determind by 1 or at most 2 shots in a game ..

its a lotto win to give up a 4 and recover - you need 6 misses in an end and a pic

its a balmy -31 in Winnipeg , so dont sweat the 6 foot drifts and seven foot ridges that the 4 Hugh Munro graders in a row can build on all the streets

last week they just skimmed the lanes with a loader -awesome and appropriate, last night they decided to make a mess that will break legs, give heart attacks, and cause 1000s of accidents as drivers cant see ..

Two Trials qualifiers both lost...maybe Homan and Jones are gearing up for provincials seeing they don't need to worry about points anymore.

Other than the odd time playing the draw in Triple Knock-out events I've never known Jennifer Jones to relax and donate easy wins to competitors.

As for Homan, her form chart indicates she never plays the draw - she's simply out there to eviscerate whoever she's up against!

According to the scoreboard - Jackie Harrison had control of Rachel from the get-go - which is unusual - tied coming home Harrison made her final tap to secure victory! The percentages indicate Rachel's woes are continuing while Emma has stepped things up a notch!

Meanwhile, Jones had control of her opponent but essentially broke down in the 8th and final end - unable to make a game-winning draw to secure a win. Jones might have been the lowest player on the ice percentage wise - Lawes and Officer were higher than their usual average in this match.

Only other major note - Val Sweeting busted up the Russians (Sidorova) 10-2. Many will speculate Anna Sidorova has lost interest to explain her poor results of late. They've already been supplanted as another team bumped them off their pedestals for the Euro-berth.

Right now - going out on the early limb - I'll predict a Valberta vs. Tirinzoni final!

But I think there's much merit to curlerbroad's assertion both Jones and Homan re-tooling in anticipation provincial playdowns, no need for any more CTRS points.

Trinzoni is one of my favorite skips and one of the best in the world. Did well in the first game and meets Flaxey next.
I see that Cathy 'O is back with her for this 'spiel which is a big plus. In her first game 'O was in the low '80's which is more than acceptable.

Tz is lucky to have her, not for her percentages, but primarily because she needs 'O's consistently sound advice on the "T". Especially in the closing ends. Case in point: In the last 'spiel in a game they were close to winning, Tz decided in the closing ends to play two shots she was comfortable with but which were contrary to what 'O had recommended. Disaster!

Let's hope Tz learned from that experience, because she does have all the necessary shots. Always has that little frown on her face. Love it!

semi-un-related, but for some reason, lately I've been hearing all of Fresca's posts with a rolling Scottish brogue. They are even funnier that way.

Am also liking O'Trinzoni team. Game Gets Global. Good event.

No worries, Mate! Haven't you heard - all the money's gone into Slumpy Selinger's 250 million stadium project. Too bad Slumpy got horse-whipped in the last election by our old curling buddy, Lurch Pallister!

Besides - roads are kinda like curling. First storm cleans up real well; next one the troops are tired & disinterested - major mistakes & misteps - by the 3rd storm THEY DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE FOOT OR HORSEBACK - HILLBILLY OR DONUT.

Flu Bug flying around

Hey there guys,

I was at the US Open last week and Jinli Liu was sick over this tourney making them play shorthanded for their last 2 matches.

They had a spare Rui Wang who was already hobbling and unable to curl.

I noticed they curled with 4 yesterday against Hasselborg. Are any other teams been hit with the flu a la the Scotties from 2014?

my suggestion that you bet the farm that today we would see

gushue v koe

or

carruthers v edin

wasnt perfect -- instead jacobs v koe & shuster v edin

hopefully its a male today or i drop below 50%

seems like Shuster and usa have taken a page out of sweden , norway and scotland from 10 years slam attendance and have upped their game to be a top ten contender - wacked carrwithers with a 1st end 3 and held on

while jacobs proved ml's long time revelation that a bunch of deuces are better than gushue singles

Rogers will likely pick koe v jacobs at 11:30 wpg time 12;30 in TO , and 9;30 in port langley bc , knowing i can drop channels in a milosecond and save $9

koe 7 - jacobs 4 koe gets a 3 in 6th

btw nelski - we know you arent sailing today so chip in a few comments , gerrys in fat city at the arena banquet ballroom but we need some more hits so dallas can feast on some of those $7 lobsters they are selling at Superstore

2.5 hours til couch potato time

CZ Scoreboard Watchin'

Looks Valberta (aka Super Val Sweeting) has bitten off more than she can chew this a.m. - Lady Bang Bang 2 up comin' home!

Brianne Meilleur (anglicised to Brie Miller) showing yesterday's upset of JJ Jones no fluke - up 2 late in the game vs. M. Englot.

Battle of the Annas (Russia vs. Sweden) and Hasselborg seems intent on sending Sidorova to the C event.

Jones 3 up coming home vs. Carey. Other than Cathy O, nobody relishes inflicting pain and loss on Jones more than Carey. But Jones has turned the tables. I'd say JJ is 90% certain to win this a.m.

Noticed Ali Raeva back playing 2nd for Sidorova.

Also noticed the Russians introduced us to Alina Rocksava this a.m. - replacing Margareta Fomina mid-game. Anyone know what happened?

Follow up on this a.m.'s matches

Valberta Sweeting pulled thru with a hard fought extra end victory over B. Wang.

B. Meilleur fell apart down the stretch and fell at the hands of Michelle Englot 6-5; notable because while Meilleur curled a mediocre 65% - the winning skip Englot dropped a deplorable 47%.

Anna Hass won the international feature match vs. Sidorova.

Jennifer Jones was up 3 coming home vs. CC Carey (6-3) but Carey must have had some kind of wicked last brick as the score ended 8-3. . . . . what kind of shot, I don't know - maybe one of our correspondents in NB will speak up?

Well I clicked on the scores and it looks like Carey had to throw two triple hits...so her team obviously let her down. Wonder if they will stay together if they don't make the trials.

ml - if you are 3 down coming home you play draws and junk

if jj makes a few shots then cc probably hasnt got one

probably happened to you quite a bit in the 40s

dont ever recall being down coming home so this post is souly based on 0bservation

if cc had 2 triples then jj let the house junk up and gave cc a chance - also if you miss the first triple your next shot would be a quad --

it appears from viewing that one way to win is to have a cluster of 3-7 of your rocks in front of the pot -

They still have their auto-berth from winning last year's STOH - so I don't think anything will happen until after this year's Scots.

Carey is a mercurial performer who tries to subvert her emotions. Nixon is also mercurial but she's 10x more expressive and isn't averse to displaying her emotions (mostly anger & frustration) on the ice.

PS. If there was a palace coupe prior to the Scotties (and I'm putting the chances at under 10%) who would they pick up to toss skip's stones? Amy herself isn't a top skip. Heather Nedohin, who semi-retired might be the logical replacement but can she get her game together in a couple months or less? If Val doesn't get out of Alberta this year (I'd put her odds at around 70% of getting out) then perhaps they'd pick up Val.

In any event - replacing Carey prior to her earned auto-berth would be ginormous - it would dwarf Jennifer Jones replacing Cathy Overton.

Just love Mike "Husky" Harris's new description

"Just an AWFUL turn of events! AWFUL!" in describing Raytch & Emma barfing up back to back 3-enders to KC Scheidigger.

The classic YoYo. I would have thought that taking a foursey would not have affected the homan team so drastically. Never be smug. Never underestimate or POW#*!!@ right in the kisser. Frequent in Club Curling - seldom at this level. Any other explanations? Was there an injury, or an in-team squabble. WOW!
