sweeping question

This question came about at a game today.

Player 1 throws his rock using the "crutch". Player 2 begins to sweep, but falls. Is it legal for player 1 to catch up with the rock and help sweep with the broom end of his crutch?

Thanks for your response. I had checked the rules, but couldn't find anything that said that he couldn't.

I will preface this by saying that I am positive someone or multiple people will tell stories to the contrary, but.... while I think the rules allows this to happen, I cant imagine the shape of the crutch/broom really allowing for any productive sweeping. Perhaps cleaning the ice, but due to teh short length and odd rectangular shape, I dont feel like you could actually put any real force onto the ice to do any real work. Probably break a sweat, but not actually do anything productive

There is nothing in the rules of curling that would preclude one from sweeping with your stabilizer head (which is just a modified fixed head curling brush anyway). There are really not much in the way of rules or association regulations for approved curling equipment, so the sky's the limit. I would not suspect that a stabilizer is a particularly effective sweeping weapon, but there's nothing to stop you from trying.

However, I suspect regulations for approved curling equipment are on the horizon...

Cheers.

I agree...I certainly don't think that he was making a lot of difference to the course of the rock. However, his sweeping partner made the comment that he thought that it was against the rules, so I thought that I would try to find the answer. Again...thanks to everyone who responded.
