Already posted by Grandslamcurling that Kelsey going back to her previous team... a great move, as don't think the chemistry was all that good this year. They should do well and Becca is a super teammate with a great attitude.

Posted earlier about Chelsea going with the Sweeting front end of Dana and Rachel plus Wilkes.

The women's game has improved greatly with Homan's team showing the way. Other teams have begun to devote the time to compete with great results. The Olympics proved that you can peak at the right time and win. Since the mental and emotional grind to represent Canada is the toughest in the world I suspect Homan's team will call it quits this season. Family priorities, new careers and the thought of another 4 year grind will contribute with a " I had a great career" thanks I gotta start something else. I don't think all of them will retire, just that the current team will not stay together.

Unless he's not satisfied with his practice in Alberta, can't see him moving, especially if Courtney has no guarantee she will even be curling with Homan after this year.

We all know how 'rigorous the enforcement process is' - it is virtually non-existent. As long as the player lives somewhere on this planet, it's fine.

It's a shame that Curling Canada refuse to enforce their own rule... actually it's more of a farce.
It really only affects the Brier and Scotties directly (and the respective paths to them, that being the provincial playdowns) - but the fact is that teams are formed specifically to compete in the Brier and Scotties, so it's quite important in the actual forming of the team.

It's not like a team will play with 4 players from 4 different provinces for 7 months (when residency doesn't matter to play tournaments/bonspiels), and then form a team made up only of players from their own province for the month of the Scotties/Brier. No - it's a year-long commitment - at least - and so Curling Canada should enforce their own rule.
The tradition of pitting players from the provinces/territories against each other in the National Championships goes back many years. A team from Saskatchewan should be a team from Saskatchewan, period - no 'imports', and no overlooking their own residency rules by Curling Canada...

Chelsea would at least add some personality to the team.

Peterman becomes the top free agent on the current docket. Laine Peters prolly stays at home and either plays 5th for an established team or tries to get on with some veteran girls.

Carey will not be pursued as vigorously as Peterman - mainly due to Carey's 'unique' personality.

Wonder if she'll consider going back with her original Manitoba team including now-retired 3rd Kristy Jenion McDonald.?

One thing about Carey - no option is off the table. She might even consider offering her services to BC or Sask'n curling. Who knows?

Read some of the older posts and not just your own... Peterman isn't a free agent and is already spoken for. So is Carey.

Unless curling geek did not update the info, there's no mention of team Carey until she notified TODAY. What makes you think Peterman is already on another team? Care to share?

Never happen. Both have been skips for 20 years and both have skip egos. Neither will step back. Ever.

Heard Jill is semi-retiring and Peterman heading for MB... Carey getting Sweeting front end and Kleibrink third Wilkes.

Much as I agree with Nose, the Genie is out of the bottle and I'll win the Lotto Max before the CCA takes back the 'one import' rule.

There is, however, a deterrent available: make any team using an out-of-province curler pay a higher entry fee for playdowns. And I'm not suggesting a small amount. I'm talking a $4000.00 entry fee. Extra money would go to the local governing body's Jr programs.

Plus any team caught lying about a players true residency would have to pay retroactively and all team members would face a competition ban of two years. And yes, you would have the right to challenge a player on their status if you thought something was dodgy, and that player would be required to provide multiple pieces of hard evidence to prove their status.

Sure, some can afford it and will pay. But at least the extra money can be put to good use and possibly some others will choose a talented local player rather than an import.

Make it 25000
There have been so many abusers over the years it's not funny. Biggest is Johnny Mo in BC for years well before the 1 import. These teams have the BIG sponsors so 4k is a drop in the bucket. Make it hurt if they cheat. Fine them. Shame them . All this talk lately about sportsmanship and integrity of the game....what a joke. It's easy to enforce. Where do they declare their taxes. You can have a fake address and fake part tine job but what province are your taxes declared for your real job. EG fire fighter in Canmore AB not fishing guide for one weekend in BC. Again that only works if you work, If you're a professional curler for hire it's a bit harder Same goes for Homan and Courtney in AB curling for Ontario. Courtney "moved" for the first year but they both RESIDE in AB now. Somebody at Curling Canada grow a backbone and enforce what you've legislated instead of turning the blind eye.

Again sorry for the rant of day.

you are fully justified in your opinion. and 100% correct. it's time the CCA stopped being so gutless and enforced some of their own rules. if you aren't going to enforce them then why have them. why have any at all.

the CCA is probably one of the worst and one of the most spineless governing bodies in sport. they simply refuse to enforce any rules

I agree, some of these have been pretty surprising...and it's still not over yet...well, as in, there are still a few that haven't said anything yet one way or the other.

For the men, I'm sure as soon as the Brier is over it's going to kick into high gear.
