I see this happen with the Brier where ONT vs AB every last round robin game for the last few years. I don't have a problem with them "seeding" the provinces based on last years standings or cumulative standings over a few years so that chances are you will see the top two teams playing each other on the last draw and similar cases for the top 4 or 5 teams playing each other in the final days. But to chance the schedule based on the teams you would start to see people ticked off because of when the play, back to back, etc. You need to have a reason for it prior to declaration of teams. Using the same draw sched and seeding based on past standings seems logical to me.

It's a round robin. Every one plays every one eventually. Should be the same draw every time, every year, no matter who the teams are or what the game time/coverage times are. You know going in that for example the first game will always be BC vs PEI, AB vs NL, MB vs NWT, etc. No attempting to seed (unknown) teams, no guesses about which team match-ups should be in final games or time-slots. TV coverage would work around the draw to decide which games they want to cover and that decision could then be based on the draws with the most entertainment value.

I think the point is that Manitoba vs Ontario (probably the marquee match-up of the week) was played today during the morning whereas it would attract a far bigger crowd, both at the arena and viewers from home if it were played in the evening, and on the last day of round robin. If the CCA wants to do things because of their bottom line and money, you will see things changed so they can control who plays who and when without leaving it to chance... this has been the worst year by far for intriguing and interesting important games being on.

But...perhaps thats because the field is so watered down...

Hopefully for the evening draw tsn shows the only undeafeated team left in the tourney, QUE vs MB. The curling fan doesn't need to see k scott play for a 6th time this week!

Disagree. TV coverage is an important factor to consider. It's impossible to perfectly predict which games will turn out to be the marquee games, but schedule makers can make pretty good guesses. It was not unreasonable to expect a JJ-Homan match to get an evening draw for example.

Think ahead to the Brier - the matches between Martin, Howard and Stoughton ought to get evening slots.

As usual curling becoming so political. Look at the faces of the curlers, you going to tell me that Man team is having fun. They constantly look angry/unhappy and JJ attitude comes out in her voice when calling the shots.

Birt seems to have trouble handling prosperity on the ice. Anytime they get an advantage or have a strong chance to seize a game she drops back. Hard to say its the coach because its impossible to know how coachable any players are, but PEI seems to repeat their mistakes. For example, its pretty obvious Birt under ices her own in turn in many situations.

I agree with you on decisions, just saw her give up three because she hit the wrong rock ( it was obvious multiple jams possible on the shot she called; there was almost nothing good come out out of her chosen shot ).

Birt is an enigma, talented at times but frustrating to watch at other times. Are they just happy to be competing or do they want to challenge at these annual affairs ?

Agree...I can't stand Jennifer Jones. But fact of the matter is, the majority of people do like her (I hate to admit this) and to the average person and most certainly, to the average non-curler...she presents a much bigger appeal to have people watch. I can assure you that the Olympics and USA being involved in curling is the main reason that the sport has grown to the point of curlers becoming elite level athletes...and thus creating much more enjoyable games for everyone to watch...thus more growth and popularity (people are making more shots than they are missing, are in general attractive due to fitness, and so on and so forth). You can say it's unfair because the rich get richer (ie. the elite players get more tv time and more money and blah blah) and the poor get poorer...but it's the only thing that will make our sport grow and continue to be as big as it is.

As big a commitment and as great a job that TSN has done for decades...without viewers...I guarantee you they pull the plug, if not completely, quite significantly in comparison to what we are used to. And they only get the viewers because of marquee matchups. And the majority of the time these marquee matchups are the top/elite curlers in our country. Let's give the athletes some credit where credit is due...regardless of how much you may dislike them.

It's unfortunate that some of you have issues seeing competitive minded women play Curling. They ARE having fun, and you must experience a lot of "angry/unhappy" people in your daily life.

TSN needs LIVE chat!!!!

I need to voice my opinions on this PEI/NS match. Birt is so frustrating to watch. She is so inconsistent. 1 brilliant shot, 1 terrible shot.

U have draw weight in your pocket, why did she throw bumper in her last shot in the 7th?

Live chat would be fantastic with all these other curling fans watching & commenting.

Wake up TSN, maybe next year you can implement it.

The draw template is done and teams drawn each year to fit that template in slots 1 to 12. This way the same provinces do not play each other at pre-set slots each year unless those provinces happen to draw the same number again by chance. There is no way to pre-seed the teams to fit TV slots for a round robin. Lot of whining going on here for no reason. It is what it is and as in life, one cannot please everyone. This seems especially true of curling viewers.

The feature game will not be manitoba/quebec because its meaningless, its really the only game you can automaticallyt eliminate. All 3 other games have their pros and cons and are valid candidates:

Alberta v.s Canada - battle of Alberta and former team mates.its really only interesting for that reason

Saskatchewan v.s BC - like it or not its the most likely one. battle of 5-3 teams. this will likely be the battle for 4th place. whoever loses gives 4 loss teams alot more hope.

Ontario v.s Nova Scotia - the home team, and the commentators love them. Also have the storyline of Nova Scotia's surge. however both ontario and nova scotia already got feature games today

Can't be that hard for the feature game each night to include a top seed. In the US, the NFL chooses the best matchup for primetime games at the last practical minute and it has done wonders for ratings and fan interest. How can this possibly not make sense for curling?

The curling folks can do something similar - showcase the top seeds early, mix in as many provinces as possible for local interest, switch to games at the end with playoff implications, and be fair to the players.

yeah but is it really wise to feature quebec and manitoba? manitoba will be getting plenty of coceraage to come, guaranteed 2 games in the playtoffs and I would put money on the manitoba/saskatchewan game tomorrow being the feature...especially if Saskatchewan beats BC tonight

Its not wise to showcase a game that you know is extremely likely to be a blowout.

This may be so,but if TSN's ratings continue to bomb for this event, there won't be any viewers. It's a business and therefore needs to think like a business. I doubt the CCA wants to give up the TV revenue just to make things fair, equitable and comfortable for the curlers. The NFL does it with their Sunday night game. Players have to adapt.

bc vs sask confirmed, why show bc for 6th time?

if your not gonna show the team with the best record, at least homan against the seniors.

for the thousandth time..

Manitoba v.s Quebec likely wont even be close, its not a good choice and, again the game is absolutely meaningless.

every other game on the ice has meaning and manitoba will likely be featured heavily throughout the rest of the event. their games against saskatchewan and new brunswick are both good candidates and they are guaranteed 2 games in the playoffs.

Just took a look at the Brier draw... MB/AB, MB/ONT, and AB/ONT are all evening draws, Saturday, Sunday, and Friday nights, respectively. Prime TV viewing schedules. The Scotties can and should be a little more strategic in planning the schedule, it was a real mistake to have MB, CAN, and ONT all playing at the same time all week. Has led to some real snoozers for feature TSN game options.

AB/ONT has been the final round robin draw at the Brier for the last several years. Is that the work of a randomly-planning computer?

Im just saying that I always thought that the draws were made by computer. I am a massive curling fan and have tried to make fantasy draws for curling events of my own and it always gives me such a headache to try and plan out the draws and not have repeats with teams playing the same team twice.
