Why wasn't Edin skipping?

Just watching a the Ashely Home Store final. Why isn't Edin skipping? What the commentator said doesn't make any sense to me. She said "They are preparing for the Olympics. If Edin isn't able to play then they want to be prepared for Oscar Eriksson to skip." The only reason I can think of for Edin not being to play is if he has some kind of injury. If that were the case he certainly wouldn't be now playing third where he has to sweep. So what's happening?

sounds like a page out of the scottish playbook. Ericksson is a skip in his own right - but seeing him perform in a final of a slam event - well - they saw, I guess. EE - not a bad performance. My questions - how did Edin do as a sweeper/vice?

Edin however is not a third. His whole career he has skipped, and won, a lot. Two world titles. Last year they were the best team in the world and on the WCT tour. Why change? The only thing I can think of is Oscar has a minor injury that prevents him from sweeping so he's skipping, and they don't like the Skip throwing Vice rocks model.

If it's not that I'd be really interested in hearing their logic as its unfathomable to me.

Edin did very well as 3rd, and in the sweeping role.

My understanding of what was explained, was to have Oskar skip the event in case he would have to be called on to do so at the Olympics, if Edin came down with an illness/injury scenario.
