Kevin Martin World Curling Hall of Fame Induction

Many exciting things to come in Las Vegas as the World Men's Curling Championship begins there at the end of the month!

Kevin Martin will be inducted into the World Curling Hall of Fame ahead of the Tuesday afternoon draw at the Orleans Arena.

Aside from the question...first reaction is what the heck is the curling hall of fame doing in Vegas? This makes even less sense than Rock'n Roll HOF in Cleveland.

As for the question, despite many great positive accomplishments in his career, I will never forget the 2009 decision to throw away his first stone because he "couldn't make things better by playing it". Thus giving Murdoch the opening he needed to play a tap back on his last to be shot stone. Then missing his last attempted double giving up a stolen deuce and the world title in the process.

about time, would have thought he would have been inducted a few years ago. Congrats Kevin!

Throwing away that stone in the skins so he could have hammer in the last end.

Although I quickly found out last week that Kevin DOES NOT like being addressed as K-MART I do think he was one of the most wonderful players THE GAME HAS EVER SEEN - - -

Obviously,
Ken Watson is #1 in everyone's mind but the list narrows to just a few elite shooters after Watson

K-Mart is one of them, right up there with Kevin Koe, Don Duguid & Al Hackner at his best.

I'd put a ton of old-timers like Matt Baldwin, Hector Gervais, Ernie Richardson, Billy Walsh, Ab Gowanlock but the sad fact is they played in the short slid era - where 75% made shots usually assured a championship. Looking back over old Brier films the amount of misses is amazing - sheer volume.

Kevin doing that "No-Shot" vs. Porky aside - he was a marvellous strategist and despite an awkward looking slide (remember K-Mart was over 6 foot and tipped in around 200) he could make everything from power angle raises to delicate tap-backs when engaged in a game of 'House-Stacking".

Well-deserved.

I'm reserving one space between Watson and Martin - and that's for Brad Gushue.

If Brad can go 3 for 3 x 2 - ie. 3 Briers, 3 Worlds + the one Olympic gold - he'll zoom past K-Mart immo

Big if - but Goo is young enough and his team good enough to take on all comers. Jacobs is now a perennial threat but all the other top guys have disbanded and re-booted (ie. Koe, McEwen, Epping, Carruthers, etc)

Brendan Bottcher and his youthful Happy Gang might be the only ones who are most capable of derailing Gushue from a 3 x 3, next season.

He led the way as the first truly professional curler who hand picked his team.

The dude brought home curling Olympic Gold representing his hosting nation. How difficult and how much pressure? Ask S Korean, Russian, Italian, U.S. and Japanese men's teams.

Simply the best in his day.

I know this is rather useless to reply, but I feel compelled. Please don't call Kevin Martin K-Mart, especially since you know he doesn't like this. Sigh. Can you at least pretend to show some respect?
