MCT points race.

Well with 5 events left including the Berth Spiel, it will be interesting to see what the magic number is to achieve for the 4 teams to claim their points spots in the Safeway Championships in Brandon.

With 3 Gold Events & 2 Silver events left there is still time for teams to move up in the standings. Will the magic number be 100, 120 or more?

How many of the top teams are playing these final 5 events?
Current standings are:
1) Irwin 114
2) Dunstone 86 * Has spot from Spring Berth spiel
3) Grassie 83
4) Ramsey 77
5) Steen Sigurdson 72
6) Muntain 70
7) Stoughton 62
8) Peters 60
9) Calvert 58
10) Baker 52
10) Kolomaya 52
12) Marnoch 50
12) Kuran 50
14) Stanus 41
14) Loreth 41

My predictions for the spots are as follows but not in any specific order.
Irwin, Ramsey, Grassie & Peters.

i would agree with irwin and grassie but replace ramsay and peters with dunstone for sure and then sigurdson.

jeff gets in automatically as defending champion yes? i forget how that works.i know they do in alberta and ontario

Dunstone already has a berth as he won the Berth Bonspiel in the spring.

As for Jeff getting the defending champion spot, this is not the case as he has a new team this year so he was not eligible to get that spot.

They have took that spot & put it into a CTRS Spot for this year, in which Carruthers & Stoughton are having a very tight race & it will come down to the final two slams to see who gets that spot.

Now that Carruthers has made the playoffs at the National and Stoughton hasn't, does this mean Stoughton will play at the MCT championships instead of the Canadian Open next month? Or does he go in the Winnipeg Regionals at his home club - Charleswood? It'll be interesting to see how Stoughton goes after the provincial spot.

Yes it will be interesting to see what Stoughton does, but I really can't see him pulling out of the Canadian Open to play at the MCT Championship. I think he will take his chances at Regionals or the MCA bonspiel if he absolutely needs to.

Looks like the MCT Standings are going to tighten up after this weekend with Rmasey making the final (still in progress) he will be guaranteed a minimum 34 points. With Lyburn qualifying he gains another 22 & moves up the standings. Irwin, Grassie, & Sigurdson failed to qualify so they will not gain any/many points for their results.

With a strong MB field at East St. Paul next weekend then it may paint a better picture of who will get closer to a points spot.

It looks like the points race is heating up with this weekends bonspiel at East St. Paul.

With Grassie making the Final (still in progress), Peters, Ramsey, & Muntain all qualifying it will really tighten up the standings as Irwin was not playing this weekend.

It will be interesting to see what the standings look like as it doesn't appear they were updated after the DeKalb spiel in Morris.

Congrats to Team Lyburn who defeated Kolomaya for a berth to Brandon in Feb 4-8th.

With 2 events left has anyone booked their spot to Brandon & the Safeway Championship or will it come down to the results of the MCT Championship.
