I was just looking at the women's draw for the Stockholm Cup

And I noticed that all the teams have their national flag next to their names except the Canadian teams which have their provincial one.

Now I can understand why we would do that here in Canada. Gives extra information and the biggest event, the national championship is competed for by provincial champions.

But is it the same in other countries? I.e. Do they too list them provincially or do they just put a Canadian flag beside their name?

Good question. Looks like for this spiel at least the host site does not list the province. They just show which country each team is from. I'm guessing this is the case for most overseas events.

Makes sense. How many of us know the names of any of the Swiss cantons for example. No doubt their knowledge of our provinces is equally dismal:-)

Only reason really comes down to programming it. I've been toying with the idea that if a team is out of country (Canada or USA), they would be listed with the country flag. Domestic events would show their state/province flags.
