Approved Fabric

The new fabric is Oxford Nylon 420 Denier (yellow). There appear to be many sources of this fabric. Some people are calling it a "secret" fabric but it seems to be highly prolific. It has many uses. It is common for outdoor equipment, sports equipment, waterproof bags and covers. I would like to know if the approved fabric includes the poly urethane coating that is common from all suppliers of this fabric which makes it waterproof.

I do not see how there can only be one supplier of this fabric. It is no secret by any stretch of the imagination, nor should it be. There are many suppliers. No legitimate Olympic sport should have a secret material being used in the equipment.

Further clarification is necessary on the exact version of 420 Denier Oxford Nylon that is approved to prevent the use of versions of Oxford Nylon that have additional features such as ripstop. I am pretty certain that would create a directional effect.

Also, why is only yellow approved?

Yellow is only approved at this point because testing showed the colour of the fabric also had an effect on sweeping.

Gerry,

Any idea on the type of coating used on this approved fabric? Research tells me this fabric can have poly urethane, pvc, DWR (durable water repellents) and also multiple combinations of these. I am certain those would have an effect on sweeping results because if the head is waterproof it should be more effective and the longer it is waterproof the more durable it is.

What is stopping someone (besides ethics) from applying additional waterproof coating?

Who are the approved Chinese and North American suppliers?
