Why did this occur?

curlerbroad is right, it was a lovely spring day in the Banana Belt, no need for winter attire at all.

Wild and wacky stuff going on out there. Steal central. For reasons that are not totally clear the level of play at the last two Scotties hasn't been stellar. Here's to hoping in the second half the ladies get it figured out and start to play like we've seen them do a lot this decade.

At this point in the week it has become clear that there is a big gap between the top six and the bottom six.

The other thing that is clear is in the no surprise at all category. Team Homan clearly has more ways to win than anyone else. As Vic Rauters put it, "They have raised the bar for women's curling." The gap between them and the rest of this field is one of the largest we've seen at the National Championship in quite some time. No disrespect to Englot and Kleibrink who are strong teams and clear contenders. But the numbers over the last few years don't lie. Jones and Sweeting are quite simply better teams and present Homan with a stronger challenge.

Team Jones without a doubt is every bit as good as Team Homan. As far as this year goes head to head Jones has whupped them every time. Team Sweeting doesn't have quite the same horsepower as Jones and Homan but Val herself has got that Glen Howard kind of cool under fire that allows her to be the equal of anyone on 'any given day', and also allows her to bounce back from tough losses as if they never happened.

The rest of the way:

Team Homan (7-0) is undefeated but have a tough schedule coming home. They play NL, QUE, NO and MB.

Carey pulled off a huge win in that wild and wooly game tonight to get to (5-1). Really important for them to stay at 1 loss as they have three of the contenders on their way in. QC, NO, AB.

Englot (6-1) has only one contender in her last four and at this point has to be considered a lock for the playoffs

McCarville (4-2) has two really tough ones in her last five. ON and CN.

Kleibrink only has one game in the next five against one of the top five but at 3-3 one loss is the most they can afford.

At this point it's 50/50 as to whether 4 losses will get you anything at all at day's end.

'AS FAR AS THIS YEAR GOES HEAD TO HEAD, JONES HAS WHUPPED THEM
( HOMAN ) EVERY TIME.' JB42

Homan won both the Shorty Jenkins Classic and the Canad Inns

Classic at the start of the 2016-2017 season. I suspect Homan

did not lose any games to Jones in either. I do remember

Jones lost to Hasselborg in the QF's.

In the Pinty's Grand Slam Masters, Homan lost the final to

Flaxey. Along the way in the QF's, Homan beat Jones by scoring

2 in the 8th and stealing 1 in the EE.

To Deliverer

You are right, right, right, and I am wrong, wrong, wrong:-)

Team Homan did lose their two previous games to that to Jones, so I have no idea where I got the three in a row from.

In fact their other game against Jones this year in the Shorty it was Team Homan doing the whupping 8-0. So in their last four they have a split. Otherwise known as no story at all.....lol......

The perils of relying on one's memory.
