broom position

This is not a sweeping issue (at least I don't think so). In our 90% senior league, some people have now started to drag their broom on the ice beside and slightly behind the leading edge of the moving rock (to the side of the rock - about a foot away.) They do not seem to be interfering with the forward motion of the rock, And when the skip calls sweep they pick up their broom and start to sweep, A few people have asked if it is legal and I cannot find a reference in the rule book, My concern would be maybe dropping debris in front of the rock when sweeping starts,
Any thoughts?

As long as the broom drag is not in the direct path of the rock, not illegal. some might argue and say they are damaging the ice and that would be illegal, but I would disagree with that.

Agree with Curlky , we have had people do this for years. No more damaging to the ice than the sweepers feet following a stone or sweeping.

One thing to watch with this technique would be depositing in front of the rock. If you are dragging behind the rock, you may be picking up debris and frost. So if your first broom motion is to slide into the path, only make a half stroke and deposit right in front of the rock. So while there is nothing directly illegal with this technique, you would probably want to watch them, as they may be unintentionally depositing.
