That seems a bit of a stretch. It does show what Homan’s competitors (and Homan herself )think of her sportsmanship when neither parties think she should win the award , but, did it to prove a point.
A full time students is usually considered by the institution to be someone taking 3 courses per semester. Nobody says you have to pass them. Courses like first aid, cpr, whmis, excel training etc are pretty cheap to enroll in. Could probably be officially enrolled for less than $600. Never show up ... fail and re register next year. Small price to pay if it allows you to curl in any province you want.

McDonald was not handed any special invites. They qualified for the Grand Slams and are in good position to qualify for the last 2.

Qualifying cut-off for the Players' Championship is the Brier. McDonald will have to have a strong showing at the Brier to hold onto that 12th spot with a tight race of other teams close to them.

Yes, McDonald is in 12th place at the present time but he's got two or three worthy contenders currently nipping at his heels. As well, he's about to begin the most competitive curling event of his life and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he shot the lights out in Brandon and still finished no better than 5th or 6th. And if this happens, I'm not sure how many points, if any, would be generated towards an entry into the Players'. Do you know how exactly how high he must finish to generate OOM points?

Regarding the Champions Cup, I was not aware he won the Challenge de Curling de Gatineau back in October. While that is a WCT event, can you confirm it is also considered "One of the WCT Master Series Events" or a "Special National Event"? If so, he qualifies for the Cup; if not, he doesn't. Period. Currently the Men's field is made up of seven teams; McDonald's team is not among them. Could be that McDonald has already received written confirmation that his team has qualified. Perhaps they are simply waiting for him to accept the invitation.

I always think it's weird the way people bitch and moan about the residency rules. The best team in Canada is supposed to break up because one player moves away for family? Seems kind of dumb to me.

The best way to solve this now might be to say the skip (or fourth rock thrower, whatever) must be from the province their representing and then the rest of the team can be from wherever. This way you keep the regional representation and get rid of the outdated silliness of residency requirements.

OOOOORRRR

Let the teams with more than one out of province player, play for the spot in the top 2 CTRS positions and qualify for the wildcard. Let the teams that play by the rules qualify for their province

Oooooorrrr, once you are born in a province, just like countries, you can play for your birth-province for life. Admit it, Rachel developed all of her curling skills in Ontario! Rachel should be able to play for Ontario for life!

Remember, the idea here is to field the best team to represent Canada at the Worlds and win worlds. Can anyone deny that Team Homan is not one of the top 2 or 3 contenders for that spot??

OOOORRRRR play by the CURRENT rules rather than take advantage of loopholes and CC looking the other way.

CURRENT rules do not allow you to play for your birth province, it's irrelevant. That's at least until the next Olympic cycle when CC gets pressured by top teams, sponsors and television rights, to bend over once again.

Don't get me wrong, as stated here many times before, I'm a huge fan of Team Homan, Best team in Canada, one of the best ever.....BUT what makes them think they don't have to play by the same CURRENT rules as everyone else in the country?

AAAAANNNDDD ask Chelsea Carey how she feels about provincial residency, as she actually MOVED to Alberta to follow her dream and still won.

If we are still going to have a national championship each year with provinces and territories represented then the CCA should grow some stones and lay the hammer down for these events. Let them do what they want for the WCT and Olympics but when it comes to the Brier / Scotties you must represent the province you reside in. Its only two weeks a year so suck it up.

Suggestion:

During provincials you can only play for the province you are required to file your previous years tax return in (which is the province you reside in on December 31). So in the case of team Ontario .... what province are you filing your 2018 tax return in this year ? If you happen to move between December 31 and your provincial playdowns then you won't be able to play for your new province until the next year. However you can play in your old province one last time.

If your team makes it out of provincials and plays in the Brier/Scotties each player must provide proof of the province they filed their tax return in by Sept. 1 or face a suspension for the following years Brier / Scotties playdowns. This proof is easy to attain from CRA while keeping your financial information confidential. A simple authorization form can be forwarded to CRA by the player authorizing them to release the province of filing to the CCA. This may seem harsh but if you don't want to be suspended then don't screw around with your residency.

This will save a lot of bellyaching from everyone and it also gets the CCA off the hook for having to manage this mess.

Fantastic idea but cheaters are still going to cheat, cheat, cheat, cheat. There's an accountant who will find a way around it . There's CC executives who will look around, around, around it.

NOT FAIR!!
NOT FAIR!!
You disagreeing with the poster you quote is bullying, too!!

Lord help us with all of this 'politically correct' BS.
The only thing such 'political correctness' has done is ensure that everyone becomes a 'victim' of something/someone by making people want to be 'hurt' and 'offended' anytime someone expresses an opposing opinion. It has encouraged people to cower and to be as insecure as is humanly possible. It's a sickness.
The healthy reaction to disagreement or criticism is to encourage people to either brush off meaningless criticism, or to stand your ground and express your counterpoint with confidence and logic to honest criticism.

"No-one can make you feel inferior without your consent." - Eleanor Roosevelt.
'Political correctness' is one of the most hypocritical and destructive elements unleashed upon any society in the history of civilization.

It seems that there are two issues here. Was the bullying that Homan’s team are referring to the “Alberta” yell during the awards presentation or was it the sportsmanship award given to Homan? Or was it both. First off I don’t consider the Alberta yell a form a bullying, It was a heckle and could be considered rude and inappropriate. If the fan yelled it constantly during the game or multiple times yes it is bullying. Second, as far as the sportsmanship award is concerned, is Homan absolutely sure it was a concerted effort to embarrass her? Is she that disliked that a significant number of curlers would want to do that to her? I guess maybe only the participants would know for sure, but, if you expect an apology you should be specific on what you want the apology to be.

If other teams are indeed being petty and jealous, they need to pull up their socks and up their game. Simple as that. Homan got to the level through dedication and hard work; no place in this sport for petty highschool BS. The team is also involved in juniors programs.

Give your head a shake man. There are a lot of examples out there. You just need to dig a little. Wait until Nunavut gets with the program. Can you picture Johnny Mo (for example) in a red and yellow jacket. It could happen !

The fact that were having this conversation year after year is reason enough to implement some hard and fast rules for, "I REPEAT", two weeks a year. Let them do whatever they want on the WCT and Olympics.

It might actually add a little drama to the Brier / Scotties when you have a big "Homan vs Miskew" match for example.

It would be good for curling, it might expose us to some high caliber players that otherwise wouldn't get discovered.

I agree.
Perhaps the poster means that because the Homan team is involved with the junior program, they must do everything else in their lives well and properly...

Would that be a junior program in Ontario or one in Alberta that they are involved with?
(Oh, dear - am I now guilty of 'bullying'??)

Absolutely ridiculous...
