So, I'm guessing Team Clawson just became the favorite to qualify for Juniors through the Eastern Regional Juniors playdown...so glad they are being kept together as a team, they have the panache and the fearlessness to go far, so long as the HPP doesn't destroy it in the name of "improvement"...good for them.

Looks like all of team Shuster remains in the program, I'm guessing as a team. Appropriate after a World Bronze. Don't mess with what ain't broken.

I note the absence of our National Champions (Clark) on the Men's side...I hope they chose not to participate rather than that they were squeezed out...but I can't *really* have too many issues about (most of) Team Brown getting in...they are the #2 US team on OOM...but dammit, being National Champion (and defeating the World's Bronze Medallists all three times you faced them at Nationals) really should mean something...

On the other hand, it's an overabundance of Riches on the USA Men's side...and that's the risk of the "We're going to choose three baskets and put all our eggs in them"...the #4 team (giving Team Dropkin the pass they earned with their performance at Junior Worlds before they aged out) is going to face a major uphill climb to repeat their performance this year.

I'm not qualified enough to speak on the Woman's side of things...but I don't see any choices I'd immediately disagree with, either...

My original post included those athletes who attended the combine but were not invited into the program. Apparently that ruffled some feathers and those names were redacted. It was my hope to garner a little recognition for them and their hard work that might otherwise go unnoticed, but alas.

I would ask whoever was bugged by that to contact me directly. I have nothing to hide.

I was asked to remove the players who were cut from the list. Is it fair to these players that they were posted to the site? Their privacy is the issue here.

Considering the invite list was not public and it was obtained by an employee of Four Seasons Curling Club I would suggest there are other concerns in place here.

Could also be that they don't want it known who was turned away. Since everything is conducted in secret, such info could threaten their "legitimacy".

The reaction this provoked from more than one person tells me all
I need to know about how threatened they think they are. Wonder who else is in their pocket as a paid eye/ear on the lookout......

Anyone who wants to attack me can feel free to do so. I've got nothing to hide, nothing to apologize for, and most of all nothing to lose.

If Gerry is in error, it's because he's being sensitive to those who tried out and did not make the cut.

If Sean is in error, it's because he wants a HPP program that is more open...in more ways than one.

I can't work up a passionate attack on either view. I can, however, get a bit passionate about any concern with an employee getting a list of Combine Participants. Since when is that on a Need To Know basis? Everybody who was at the Combine will know who was there...along with coaches...and people who walked through...and people at the bar...and people who ate lunch there. Heck, I know who was there and I'm hundreds of miles away.

So being kind to those who didn't make it is understandable. If it's just a cover for the expanding secrecy of the HPP staff, however, it's a sinful use of fake-kindness.

Interesting to see (or rather, not see) the name of Melissa Runing. In my less-than-humble opinion, she equals Bear as our best Junior Lady. If she applied, she would be in the program (obvious enough to be called a fact rather than an opinion). Hopefully the HPP reached out to her. Hopefully her life is leading her in wonderful directions that preclude her applying. Hopefully she won't be away from curling for long.

That was my thought. If anyone in the public could walk to the bar and look down and see who was there, it's technically not private, and shouldn't matter if it's known or not...

Wow.....
First, to think that an HPP staff member could make such a request.
Second, to think that Gerry would accommodate such a request.

Gerry, I'm really disappointed. And now I can only assume that all the posts you made supporting the HP Program didn't come from you but were comments given to you by the HP Staff to be posted on the Forum. I'll assume the same in future posts.

Someone in the HP Program should be held accountable for this request made of Gerry. This is not how the world works.

These athletes are adults. Are you really "protecting" them?

Next up we USA curling fans will be guessing the team lineups. I imagine the curlers even more so.

Times are a-changin. That's not how the system is supposed to work. The entire squad is named and then the mixing and matching begins. Why name lineups when they can change weekly?

That being said: Shuster's Faceteam will stay together, I believe, unaltered. Heater, Plys and Smitty will make the A team funding...probably with Dropkin at lead. That means Brownie, Kroy, Joe Cool Polo and Beighton will need a good start to get their full share of funding. That leaves Evenson and Howell floating around for now.

It's just a guess, but not exactly a tough puzzle to crack.

Women's will be tougher. Much tougher. That one next. (I assume we are done crucifying Guertzie on his own website...if not, let me know...I'll compose a literary crown of thorns as you-all cast lots for his curling shoes)

I say the said athletes make for solid teams.

For women, I expect Christensen, S Anderson, T Anderson, Haag; Sinclair, Tab Peterson, Hamilton, Tara Peterson; Roth, Walker, Sormunen, Persinger. Not sure who the "A" team will be.

Now for junior women, I like this group of girls. I think it is easy to make predictions on lineup based on each player's former position and/or experience. For example, McMakin and Burchesky at back end, Howell and Dubberstein at front. Of course these are predictions and nothing is official. I like the other team as well, with the two YOG girls with Bear and Lanigan. I'm not sure if they plan for the teams to be equally matched or if there is an "A" and developmental team. In which case, how can you tell?

Same goes for junior men. I sure hope I never run into these guys on circuit. I bet they make for tough competition.

The privacy issue would ring more true if the USCA hadn't set the original precedent by publishing the first combine rosters. Without a statement about why the policy was changed it's easy to jump to the conclusion they are decreasing transparency to limit second guessing and criticism.

If anyone is gullible enough to believe there is any true privacy possible on decisions involving $100Ks of nonprofit corporations' USOC, Inc. and/or USCA, Inc. funds spent on semi- or full-professional athletes, coaches, psycholgists, masseuses, and other paid sundry staff.... I've got a bridge for sale in Brooklyn they can buy.

Curling decades ago was a sport which prided itself as one without professionals or gamblng. One down. One to go.

Off to watch an Olympian, Scotswoman Edie Loudon (Hazard) play a spiel final game with a bunch of Canadians and Americans at the Golden Gate Spiel this afternoon. At least the spirit of curling lives on at club level.

Good lord, give it a rest people. Does every thread have to deteriorate into a bash the HPP mud fest. Now SPM thinks the HPP has bugged his phones. On 60 minutes tonight the CIA director proclaimed the HPP as the biggest threat to America.

Want to know why no one posts anymore? Its not fun. Who wants to be brought down every day by a bunch of internet trolls.

Here is the solution. SPM stated he wanted to honor all the applicants who didnt make the program by posting their names. Lets let them self-post to receive his commendation. The HPP will have respected their privacy, Gerry wont mind cause its more business, and SMP will get to bestow the honor. Agreed?
