Do any of you know how the Swiss run their national curling program?

How do they decide who receives funding?
Do they have self-formed teams or centrally chosen teams?
How do they decide who goes to world events?
Any idea how much funding overall is available to their curlers?
Are Swiss elite curlers "professionals" in the sense that they don't need to work other jobs?

Am no expert. but I do know they have play downs and pretty good participation. Fair depth. Teams are self-chosen. Not sure about funding support. #Misty1?

Also, it is a little over an hour to drive across the country. So, teams get to compete against each other all the time. One reason the US needs multiple curling centers. East, Midwest, West. Forcing the entire US competitive world to live in MN is stupid.

The qualify for World Championships, there is a minimum number of points a team has to have to be able to go. In the Men's final this year, only one of the teams could go to Worlds as the other did not have enough points to qualify.

I don't know exactly how many points this is, but it's pretty significant, somewhere in the 100-150 range.

This has pushed the top teams in Switzerland out to play as they know they need to meet a threshold to be eligible to go to Worlds.

Even for teams in Europe to compete in other countries is much easier. We are booking a 3 week trip to Europe for this summer. Train, plane is so much cheaper than one could imagine. We were in Switzerland last year, it is easy to get around. And there must be lots of funding. Our lives would be very different with their rail system.
