Big Changes Coming?

Sounds like a lot of changes coming for next season as the rumour mill is going crazy with combinations for next season.

** ALL RUMOURS UNCONFIRMED **

Kevin Koe curling with Marc Kennedy and Ben Hebert, this rumour has been around since October and sounded like it was imminent all season. Koe winning Brier throws a wrinkle into it, but they're looking forward to 2018.

Kennedy moving to third, which opens the door for a new 2nd. Mark Nichols going to Alberta is one rumour out there, but the most intriguing and out of left field call is that Brent Laing could be going to Alberta to play 2nd for the team.

Koe's Brier winning team is breaking up, but there are a few rumours out there about them as well. With Laing maybe gone from Team Howard, and Wayne Middaugh already really busy with work in the summer and fall, hearing Middaugh might join Simmons and Thiessen, and adding a second, with Rycroft coming back for the Brier/Canada Cup to be able to retain their Team Canada spot. May play a limited schedule including Canada Cup and a couple spiels later in the season.

Possibly leaves Glenn Howard without two teammates and looking for someone to third and second.

Sounds as if a retirment announcement for Kevin Martin is coming as well, which does free up Kennedy and Hebert.

David Nedohin confirmed on RockTalk during the Sportsnet broadcast that he will be stepping back, making it possible for wife Heather to make a chase for the Olympics.

John Morris rumoured to be taking a year off, meaning Team Cotter will having an opening as well. Speculation is that it might open the door for Howard to add Morris for one year as John could becomes a prime free-agent in 2015/16 when he joins a team for an Olympic run.

Rumours Brad Gushue has been testing the waters, and John Epping and be a great fit for this team at Third position. Gushue has a solid young team but it just might not be clicking with Gallant the way it should be.

Epping also heavily rumoured to be joining Team Fanset (former Team Kean) as Mark was given his release and has now formed his own team with Matt Camm, David Mathers and Scott Howard.

Niklas Edin has confirmed he's back for another four years. (But rest of team still to be confirmed)

Thomas Ulsrud will likely see Torger Nergaard and maybe Haavard Vad Petersson step away with Christoffer Svae and Ulsrud continuing with 2 new players.

Jeff Stoughton has confirmed he will be playing next season, but with who is the question. Stoughton has ruled out an Olympics run, and this might change who he can add. Reid Carruthers has been out of sync with the team and you wonder if he's ready to chase other opportunities.

Nichols rumoured to join Koe, but another strong rumour is that the Rock is pulling him and especially his wife Colette back as they miss it. May see him bsck in Newfoundland and it would be interesting to see if him and Gushue reconnect.

Nothing on Team McEwen as this point, they continue to win on Tour and a Brier breakthrough is imminent there so I don't expect to see changes there.

If, as you say, Morris is taking a year off then it lends more credibility that his summer job in BC is a sham as long suspected.

Look for that announcement, should it come to pass, to create a firestorm in BC. It could easily cause a backlash against the rest of team cotter and put Curl BC in a position where they have no choice but to ban them for one year for falsifying residency information.

Count on Laing joining McEwen in Winnipeg to be closer to Jen Jones and new daughter.

Jennifer has been living with Brent in Ontario for quite some time already.

I would lay a few chips on Morris getting back with his 2002 squad that lost the Nokia Brier in Calgary to Ferbey. Morris, Frans, Laing and Saville would be good. The only questions that remains is which of our lovely provinces and/or territories would they represent and if Saville will go back to playing second. Would be good considering next years Brier is in Calgary too.

You mean she was actually living in Ontario when the baby was born.
I am totally shocked. :-)

why would you include edin and McEwen's names in a thread such as this if indeed no changes are coming for either?

nergard stepping away doesn't surprise me, he's been around forever but petersson stepping away before ulsrud does surprise me. I have to wonder who Ulsrud will recruit. Possibly re-team up with lovold? or maybe get Hoiberg. Or maybe take a couple guys off the recent bronze medal junior team

Still waiting to hear who Fowler will find for a new third, maybe Steve Irwin????

As for McEwen, he may not have to do anything if Stoughton isn't going to play as much. Having said that, he ran out of reasons not getting out provincials now.

Where will John the parachute Morris go is the biggest question. He may want to get his ducks in order before trying out for a provincial run wherever he ends up. He might of burned a few bridges of what he did in BC?

I can see Kaitlyn Lawes skipping a team but in Manitoba might be a question mark.

Manitoba will be an interesting province in both mens and womens.

Morris

What no rumours of Morris moving to Halifax? Nobody took notice of who his partner is for the mixed doubles next week in Ottawa? Slow on the draw. Things that make you go HMMMM.

Hmm?

Still no guarantee he would even get out of NS, to play in the relegation, depends on who he teams up with or who is willing to play with him, seeing as he would be "from away". Not everyone wants to play with an illegal import, unless he physically moves to NS. Still curious though. The only other team in NS with an illegal import is Dacey. Ironic.

So Heather Smith gave Morris a blue nose and became her and Mark's butler?

I don't think anybody pays too much attention to mix doubles. A few interesting line ups what it looks like including Kaitlyn and Connor Lawes.

However, if Jones keeps her golden girls together for specific tourneys while residing in Ontario Manitoba rules may prohibit Jennifer from skipping at the provincials. Without Super JJ at the helm the Manitoba Scotties would be fascinating w/ Kaitlyn helming the Golden Girls (without Jones), Kristy MacDonald, Barb Spencer and Keri Einarson being the primary tormentors for the title.

I predict McEwen, (both Dawn, an Mike) go to Ontario and Play with Jones, and Laing....Not sure who they join? Mike could join Glen....Dawn,and Jenn pu team together.

unfolds

We'll just have to wait and see how it all unfolds, but NS is hoping he doesn't come east. Even if NS is relegated it will be with Nova Scotians. Hopefully no imports or transplants or fishing guides, there's plenty already.

Funny because zero wins and 5 wins for Ontario equal the same thing, go home. The only difference is that Howard won enough games in his previous years not to get relegated. Both teams took the same flights home. Interesting to see in the future once Howard retires how well Ontario does.

wouldn't epping linking up with gushue and gushue getting rid of gallant be something?

you'd have a line up with 4 guys from 4 different provinces

Brad Gushue - from Newfoundland
John Epping - from Ontario
Adam Casey - from Prince Edward Island
Geoff Walker - from Alberta

how would people feel about that

Still think that this team is too weak with Adam Casey on the team... He's young but I don't think he'll ever really hang with the elite seconds out there, Geoff is getting better and better but also still not really there with the elite teams.

What makes Kaitlyn and Connor more interesting than the rest of the put together teams! Lots of very interesting combinations in Ottawa.

So basically Glen said that he is playing next year but not necessarily with the team completely intact. After listening to Brent yapping in yesterday's game my bet would be on him moving on.

These guys have been so successful for so long I think they've lost perspective on why Team Howard is so great.....Glenn Howard. He comes up with clutch shot after clutch shot time after time. Rich Hart is was right on the telecast today. You need great players at all 4 positions but it ultimately boils down to the last rocks. From what I saw today Glenn had something to prove to whoever is deciding to leave.

Just heard from a reliable source...

Brent Laing has left Team Howard and is joining Team Koe with Marc Kennedy and Ben Hebert.

Middaugh also on the way out.
