Unfortunately there seems to be more and more games where many ends are played like this. Even at Trials in Wpg, there were several ends that could put a viewer to sleep. Teams are getting too good at cleaning up after first 4 FGZ rocks -- I suspect another rule change will be needed or even more games are going to become snoozers.

OMG. Its called strategy and if you can't generate the points or want hammer in ten its smart.

Theres more to skipping than putting a clusterf--k of stones jn the four foot and then hucking a hand grenade at them.

Only proves you don't know the game, or at least how to call one.

well its this kind of game that is turning people off the sport and cause them to think its boring and simple when its anything but.

I can also appreciate wanting to feel out the ice and get hammer in even ends so I don't care if they blank the first 1 or 2 ends but blanking over half of the first part of the game away makes for boring tv.

There comes a time when you maybe just have to accept that things aren't setting up take a point and move on. Sure it worked out for quebec today but ive seen so many games where a team has blanked the first 3 or so ends and then got burned with a steal and had to play catch up.

Case and point Jacobs at the Olympics in the game against switzerland

Attendance might pick up towards mid week and certainly for the final weekend. Weather needs to improve for drivers from the coast.

Might even be a silent anti-Curl BC protest also for the Morris decision. You never know.

So did they ever come up with the reason the ice was so disastrously lost at the end of Stoughton v Gushue?

I have no television so count on streaming. Which, once again, TSN is not doing. Sigh.

The CBC took the logical leap forward into the age of the internet these Olympics with their Webcast Channel. Something so popular that Americans were paying what they had to in order to be able to access it.

It is obvious that this is the future of TV. Integration with the web. Unsurprisingly it is our public broadcaster that makes the leap forward while the private stations like TSN and NBC remain stuck in short term thinking.

I sent TSN an email pointing out that they were losing 'eyeballs' by missing such an obvious opportunity.

If anyone else would like to do the same. This is the email address I found.

Balsdon beats Menard and Gushue and loses to NWT.

Menard on the other hand beats Laycock and Morris.

And NWT loses to Laycock and Stoughton.

Bit of a merry-go-round so far.

Would have been even more of one if the ice hadn't gone on Gushue as he would almost certainly beaten Stoughton had it not.

Bad luck notwithstanding it's early times to have 2 losses especially with Alberta up next. If he goes to 3 losses he might have to win 7 in a row to make the playoffs. And certainly 6 in a row to have control of his own fate going in to his last game. Yikes.

2012. Team Howard won their first five games by a total of five points. The way they were playing they could have already been out of the playoff hunt. But instead were undefeated.

By weeks-end their form had returned and they finished 12-1 for the week. In the final Wayne shot 98% and the team 92%.

What matters is winning. As they say in golf, "There ain't no pictures on the scorecard."

I guess NL is TSN's team this year, twice in one day!!!! More puzzled looks from Brad's boys as they miss their shots and more circus shots from Brad,

So far, the Brier curling is good, and is fun to watch, but not quite the calibre of the Scotties this year. But in fairness, the Scotties field was probably the best it has ever been.

I think the play will pick up. I wish I was there.

So who will be moving in the off season? Brad Gushue (who's team looks awful tonight!) or John the Parachute Morris :D

I've been really impressed with Gushue the last couple of years. He has elevated his consistency to the level of the best skips in the country. What he does not have however is a Johnny Meade or Wayne Middaugh or Johnny Mo. Teams nowadays really need at least two superstar shooters to make it all the way to the top. Martin had the good fortune of having Johnny Mo, and Marc Kennedy and Ben Hebert. All four capable of being the No 1 at their position for the week of any competition. Glenn had Richard Hart and now Wayne Middaugh. And of course Savill and Laing are no slouches. He could never have been as dominant with the teams Gushue has been fielding.

So he is left with a major dilemma. Stay on the Rock and possibly never have the kind of talent that will allow him to achieve his curling goals. Or wait for the right opportunity and make a move to a 'super' team.

Could he leave the Rock? He must have a very good life there. Family, life long friends. Also given how rare it is for Nfld to have a sports star and Olympic Champion he likely has access to a level of sponsorship that helps make it possible for curling to be his vocation. And a good gig in the off-season as well.

I guess it comes down to how driven he is by his curling goals. He would be giving up a great deal by leaving. In any case it has been entertaining watching his maturation into one of the best throwers in the game.

Wow which scotties were you watching? The field was one of the weakest in memory and the play was atrocious in the first half of the week especially.
