Grand Final, Beijing, China

Jones Team is going to Beijing and replacing Team Homan. Just wondering who made this decision. Wish them luck. Hope the scores are going to be posted on CZ.

Apparently Ben Hebert woin't be going with Team Koe to this. Could be interesting to see who they'll bring in.

Jones

Curious as to how and why Jones was selected. 1/2 her team missing, a spare and a retiree. Obviously it has nothing to do with ranking or they wouldn't have skipped over Einarson. This would have been the perfect time to send someone new to gain international experience. Silvernagle comes to mind. Much better choice for Canada's "big picture", than a mish mash of been there done that.

Koe shouldn't need too much time to figure this one out. Karrick, one of the best in the world, is sitting 175 miles north awaiting his call.

Didn't we know by this time last year where the sites were going to be for this season? I can't see any announcements anywhere about sites for the 2019-20 season. I'm starting to wonder if it's even going to happen.

Exhibition events like this don’t appeal to me much. Based on the publicity and interest I suspect this is going the way of the dinosaurs soon. Invitational sporting matches diminish the competitiveness required for this fan’s interest.

And based on Jones' recent performances, I think it would have been better to send Silvernagle rather than Jones with only 1/2 her team.

I'll look forward to seeing Denni sparing for the Koe team. I agree that Ben has too much to say.

If anyone is wondering, Jocelyn is not with Team Jones for this event because according to her Instagram story, her friend has a wedding in Mexico that she’s attending.

I am a die-hard team Jones fan and I must say JJ at 98% was a huge surprise for me for a 70-80% season.

Seems Jones is a much better curler when there's dollars involved. Lets face it, we all do better when there's money to be taken. Let's go Canada. Three championships would be excellent and a swell way to end the season.

Congrats to Team Koe for ending the season with a win just as they did for their first event. Denni was a great sub. Here's hoping for another Canadian sweep.

Nice showing as well for Team China! Koe praised them in the post interview.

TSN Turning Point

China decided to draw for 1 vs blank 4th. Can't believe Harris wasn't doing jumping jacks at the coach's bench to prevent it. Mind you, hard for him to get off the ground!! First time ever seeing Chinese playing bagpipes..

Also, Team China in the final, 1.4 BILLION people, 200 in the stands. They have 100 curlers. This is doing NOTHING to grow the game. Regroup.

The player introductions in the final were sadly humorous...
All players sliding out under an arch type of thing while loud music was playing, a laser light light show, 'smoke' (likely dry ice), and the announcer dramatically announcing each player... all in front of a whopping crowd of about 12 people.

I know they're trying to make it grandiose... but when there are so few people in attendance, it simply ends up looking silly. And very forced. The 'Grand Slams' suffer from the same artificial overkill.

Curling is traditionally supposed to be about humility and class - a 'gentleman's game'... and so this grandstanding just looks woefully out of place - like they're desperately trying to make curling look like a rock concert.
It needs to be reigned in. Curling doesn't need the superficial, artificial fanfare - it won't attract the kind of people who will have the patience to watch and learn the game, as the game plays out at a very different pace than these rather ridiculous openings.

Curling is a wonderful sport of much substance. It can stand on its own. It doesn't need this cheap superficial flashiness, which will only attract people's interest very temporarily, at best.

well, the first world cup of curling has come and gone and what a joke it was. i will say it again, this wont even last 10 years

this isnt about growing the sport this is about yet another opportunity for the top teams to get money and points and play on arena ice and give them more of an advantage over the other teams. and lets be honest the audience in all 4 legs was pathetic. especially for a grand final, involving the host nation and they still couldnt get a decent audience

if this was really grow the sport thing we'd see rules in place to prevent countries from sending the same team every time like sweden did.

if this continues next year i'd like some changes made:

1. no team can compete in more than 2 legs. this would force teams like sweden and south korea to send at least their 2nd team

2. no team can compete in consecutive legs

3. wild card. and i dont mean the host getting an invite in. this is more specifically for mixed doubles. get some of those top mixed doubles teams not of the traditional curling powers in to compete and show them off. im thinking of paulova and paul of the czech republic, kiss and polanska of hungary , lill and turmann of estonia or fowler and fowler of england.
