2004 Brier
With Team Dacey being recognized in Halifax this week, do yourself a favour and rewatch an oldie, but such a goodie: the 10th end of the 2004 brier.

I was cheering for Ferbey, but it's hard not to love what the boys from NS did that week. The long discussion about red's 7th rock is outstanding theatre.

The stars aligned for Dacey in that last end. Plus, some a--hole heckler may have gotten into Nedohin's head as well.
While we often think of Ferbey as a pretty smart skip, he was completely outsmarted in the final end of this match-for-the-ages.
In hindsight, after Bruce Lohnes placed his second draw behind the offset 2 yellow rocks of team Ferbey, the counterintuitive shot for Nedohin's first was to peel their own two rocks the heck out of there.
After an easy peel, they could have done no worse than allow a tie and go into the extra end with hammer.
Alas, Dave N threw a heavy draw and that was the game.
I'm sure Ferbey had a few(hundred) sleepless nights rethinking that end.

It doesn't matter what you call, if you miss your shots and the other team makes theirs, you're going to lose.
N.S. last 3 shots were PERFECT. Nedohin's last was not.
If Nedohin makes his, it's just another ho hum win for Ab.

"It doesn't matter what you call"..... Wow! You really said something there for the ages. There were literally hundreds of ways that 10th end could be played out, most where the odds are Ferbey wins or ties, but a few scenarios where the odds are high that Dacey scores three. And that was mostly decided by skips strategy.
Yeah, Nedohin's last shot was a ho-hum gimme....NOT. He needed to freeze perfectly with a margin of error of +/-inches. Can't leave it high, obviously can't be heavy, can't bounce off the Dacey rock..... We saw what happened.

You're stating the obvious. I am assuming that some readers have a basic understanding of the game.
By peeling your own out, your pretty much conceding at best an extra end. Not a bad thing to do. By playing the way Ferbey did, Dacey HAD to make 2 VERY tough shots perfectly.(Lohnes' second and Dacey's first.)Nedohin missed, simple as that.
The biggest mistake Ferbey made was putting Rochues second rock in the house, throw it through and win the game.
But what do they say about hindsight???

Ummm. peeling your own out would leave 2 Dacey rocks in the house. Dacey splits the house with his first, then Nedohin HAS to make a double to go an extra. Not the greatest scenario.
Makes Dacey's shots VERY easy. Give credit to N.S. they made 2 VERY difficult shots to win.
To add. Back then, Nedohin makes his last shot 95% of the time.
It didn't need to be froze. Anywhere 2nd shot at least, and splitting the centerline would have pretty much guaranteed a win, or at least an extra end.
