Bob Picken Thread

Sir Robert (aka Bob) Picken is ailing. He's fighting terminal cancer. Many folks across the country have encountered Pick on the ice lanes, the board room or the broadcast booth.

Please feel free to put your thoughts down on Mr. Picken in this thread. I had the pleasure of working with the man in the late 60s, 70s and 80s. He was always a gentleman. Always a pro.

Here's a cherished tidbit that I always used to rub in Bob's face. The FP article from Bob's lone appearance in a Manitoba men's championship final. It was 1963 and Bob suffered an inglorious 17-12 loss to Hersh Lerner and his no-hit squad from Maple Leaf. I'll post another item about Picken, an interview with Paul "Red' Friesen later.

Very sad to hear of this ML. Bob was very much front and centre at the Canadian-based world championships I was fortunate to have covered in the 1990s. He has a way with words. In one of his reports, he referred to a well-known women’s skip as an “effervescent pepperpot.” He always had a kind word for me.
