Hoping that Saturday morning we get an update on the registered teams. Might have to wait until Monday.
On a completely unrelated topic, Saturday afternoon will be the reopening of the Norfolk Curling Club. After the arson fire two years ago they have rebuilt and will start curling again this weekend. A long, tough process but with lots of help they will thrive.

That statement is from page 16 of the current USCA rule book. Seems pretty clear to me. Apparently what it really means is that the USCA can still do whatever they want if they feel the deadline should be changed. The stated reason is that they were unable to send reminders to partially registered teams due to computer problems. So they were able to update the list of registered teams on Monday but their e-mail was completely down and had no way to remind people to finish the registration? Was the phone system down too? Did the Trials teams just not know they actually needed to register?
What is the process for the USCA making sudden changes to the rules in the middle of the season anyway? I guess we won't really know for sure which teams will be playing at the challenge round or nationals or world's until the events are over. Until then anything is possible.
Maybe the delay is to allow these missing teams more time to negotiate a better $ deal with HPP and USCA? How many other "rules" will be changed before USCA is happy with the field for nationals? [I think I am just kidding, but after awhile one does begin to wonder... just a bit}

"Papable" .... do you mean palatable? Or, I guess you meant the English word about what the Italians say of a cardinal who is Pope material: "papabile".
I so loooove USCA creating a new curling aristocracy. Huzzah! They will have super elite paid professional teams soon with few from the peasantry who dare challenge their rule! Does this mean we get to watch for black or white smoke to decipher the rules of the powers that be? Such fun chimney watching!

That was one of the rumors. That team will now register and go to Philly for the Nats. What happens to their OOM points?
Still a few other rumors floating about.

Should keep their points since they've maintained three of four players from the original lineup.

From the registration site:
* Registration requirements: All team members (excluding fifth players) must be completely registered and full payment of all registration fees and acceptable proof of citizenship (for events leading to a World competition) must be received at the national office prior to the event deadline date and time. It is the athlete's responsibility to see that all requirements are completed by the entry deadline date. Competitors are required to be familiar with the rules. The USCA Rules Book is located online at www.usacurl.org (see "Events - Championships - Rules").
Anyone file a grievance on this yet? Unless the registration website was completely down on the 20th I can't think of a valid reason for extending the entry deadline.

Sounds like the new Team McCormick registered at the deadline and it left some players on the outside looking in and the USCA is giving them time to form new teams.

The registrations for Nationals is updated. McCormick and George swap teams. P. Fenson signed up at this point. 22 men's teams minus 4 leaves 18 in challenge round for 6 spots. Both the new team McCormick and George will retain their OOM points since there are still 3 members of the original team. The only change is Plys will not throw skip rocks but third rocks.
Edited to add, the OOM points are from the original team, so McCormick moves to 2nd and George drops to 5th.
13 women's teams signed up including the all Anderson team, the vice is Slata nee Anderson. She is the eldest Anderson. So 9 teams for 6 spots.
Will this change, the deadline is midnight. Might be more teams registered, final list hopefully tomorrow. One familiar name missing would be SPMnolongerfromPCC. Too bad actually as he brought an intensity like no other (and the occasional broom break).

Misty, a reset after the Trials. Hopefully it works out well for both teams. Time will tell.

I got no offers from anyone to play until the day before the deadline, and those I did get were last-second "let's throw something together" deals that I couldn't really take seriously. I guess nobody wants to play with me...what else is a guy to read into that?
It's fine. I'll save the money, avoid the BS process that the whole thing has turned into, and focus my energies elsewhere for now.

Too bad my friend as I would put you top 3 in the country at second. It is a BS process and I can only hope it gets better but seriously doubt that. I will keep fighting the battle from the other side.
MNIceman, as someone said on FB, computer malfunction is like a politician saying their twitter got hacked and that is where the pictures came from.

When they tightly adhere to the rules, I will occasionally scream, "What about the good of the game?"
Computer glitch as a real reason or a convenient excuse...I don't care. Since the original deadline passed, we'll add some Women's teams to a too thin field: Erika Brown Tetley, Caitlin Maroldo and the Tiny Terrorists are all team that I'd like to see playing down.
On the Men's side, we'll add a half dozen teams or so. Heater and Tyler trade front ends in a touch of weirdness brought on by The Trials being too close to the deadline...or the deadline being too close to The Trials. Foreseeable, yet unforeseen by the powers that be. Whatever. Do what's best for curling.
We'll add the Beadle/Jensen senior team...which isn't all that big of a deal. But getting the Bonds rink (Birklid, Guzman, Corn) is cool. Farbs needs to be in there...playoffs in Kalamazoo and Green Bay. Heater, Fenson and Tyler need to be in there or we'd be talking about the weakest field since pre-Second Chance. I want to see the Willmert team (Dolan, Jenetta, Sparstad) play as well.
So don't wait to hear me cackle about the rules or the USCA's handling of a tough situation. As best I can tell from afar, I would have done exactly what they have done. I'd like to think I would have set back the deadline last spring...but my hindsight is better than my foresight.
If you don't like the way it has been handled, what would you have done? Would have sent a weak field to Philly? How is that good for the game? Threats of a grievance ring hollow in my ears. Equally justified would have been grievances about the online entry system.

Whether one agrees with the latest USCA action or not, it seems curlers have the right to be concerned that this sort of stuff seems to keep happening all too often. Yes, a weak field in Philly may not be good for the game but not sure this sort of chicanery is good for the game either. At some point, curlers deserve to have a national organization that they trust to be doing what is best for US curling and US curlers... seems we are not very close to that right now. And even worse, I am not sure the USCA even cares what curlers think.

They are not to be trusted. They needed to wait for the Trials teams to come around and sign up for nationals as they were almost certainly required to do, which I'm betting at least a couple of them really wanted no part of. Can't conduct a national championship without our preferred teams, regardless of whether they actually WANT to play or not.
The Tyler/Heater skip swap.....well, okay. That's one way to conduct team business I guess. One skip kicked to the curb, one team of three kicked to the curb.....I suppose in some twisted way it's natural, but I'm on the outside looking in and it's really none of my business anyways so whatever works. Should be interesting.
Stuff like this is one reason (among others) I'm sitting back this year. After a while it just gets to be too much. My cup runneth over...
