ont playdowns

Not much unusual at the men's tankard except for the impresseive 8-0 record complied by Scott MacDonald. He has worked hard to bring his game up. Hope that Epping has a better playoff game against him.
Homan losing last night to an unknown was strange but better than in the playoffs.

I've surfed my T.V. for w/end coverage of the Ontario Playdowns and can't seem to find either Sportsnet or TSN covering any of the w/end games. Has anyone heard or seen any listings? If so, please post. Thanks.

They said on the webcast last night that the opposing team, Team Murphy, had a lead who was matching Lisa Weagle in making perfect tick shots.

Announcers Steski and Inglis?

Fresh, honest and entertaining. Not afraid to tell the truth when it's a bad shot or bad call. Rather than the politically correct announcers on both networks. The difference?

These guys, oh that was a terrible shot, what was he thinking?

Vs Oh that wasn't quite the outcome they were looking for.

Fresh. Like it. Well done. Just sarcastic enough.

Agreed.

Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy both the TSN and Sportsnet teams, but the frankness and humor that Steski and Inglis bring to the table is awesome.

Homan throws her last rock of the final end, a draw for the win, up 5-4 and Team Tippin has a rock biting the side of the 12 foot. The rock comes into the rings and everyone assumes it's game over so they(Tippin) don't bother sweeping the rock as it crosses the tee line. It eventually comes to a stop back 12. Team Tippin could have swept the rock and very likely forced an extra end...but why risk looking foolish, it's just a trip to the Scotties on the line right?

The part that was missing for me was any sort of strategy discussion between shots. They did do a good job of assessing shot outcomes, though.

I'm probably the odd duck out but I prefer the commentary by Mary over Pete.

Congrats, Homan!

Looked like a combination of inexperience and being deflated. Team Homan shot the lights out.

I agree that the rock should have been swept hard at the tee line. There is always a chance you might get it out. I also have an issue with people in the house half heartedly sweeping rocks. Brush like your front end does!

I'm not sure that they would have got that rock out, but it could have been real close - it finished touching the 12 without any sweeping. Given the situation, they should have been all over it.

Tippins mistake in the 10th was listening to her coach and then trying that idiotic yellow onto blue split for two. Just because Westman saw Fry do it once doesn't mean Tippin has the skills to do it.

Agreed, that wasn't a great idea. However the skip's draw behind the two rocks to bite the side of the rings was. Just maybe a rock or two too late. But the best she could hope for was Homan to throw light, heavy or the last rock to pick....and Homan threw heavy. It might have been a different outcome if she was throwing against two opponent rocks just biting. Learn from the mistakes, and better luck next year.

Scott McDonald to Brier

So team Scott McDonald runs the table at the Ontario Tankard and knocks off Epping easily in the final. They will represent Ontario at their first visit to the Brier. Good luck and "Go Ontario".

Team Epping apparently still has a chance to qualify if the stars are aligned and some other teams help them out.

Maybe MacDonald's win is the start of a "new" Ontario dynasty. Glenn needs to pack it in. Scott Howard will never be a winning skip and Epping just can't seem to hold on to the brass ring.
MacDonald has been around for years back to junior days. His mother and brother would have been very proud!

Glenn has no reason to retire; he might not win every event but he still has the drive and has picked up more event wins than the younger Gushue has. He also has a tweaked lineup.

Not sure w/ Epping, still breaking in the new team is possible.
