Brandon....more curling events?

City council approved a grant of $300,000 to be used for future curling events.

http://www.brandonsun.com/local/big...2921.html?thx=y

I am sure the stands would be fuller than they seem to be in Truro.

I don't think Brandon will ever get the Brier again, as they don't have a big enough arena.

Most likely aimed at the Scotties/Worlds I think with the size of the Keystone Centre.

Well, you never know especially with the Fowler's, mainly Lois.
First step maybe is trying to land one of the slam events. We can do better then Truro.

Brandon, under the immortal Don Pottinger and Neil Andrews did an amazing job with the 1982 Brier - remember it well!

I think if Keystone (or whatever its called now) had 7,500 seats instead of 5,800 it could bid on another Brier.

Really avid curling fans in Western Manitoba as my buddies Curler1 and others will confirm - over 200,000 market area.

Top 10 Curling Centres in Canada:

1. Edmonton
2. Winnipeg
3. Saskatoon
4. Calgary
5. Regina
6. Victoria
7. Halifax
8. Ottawa
9. Hamilton
10. Charlottown/Brandon (tie)

Other areas where curling is most appreciated

Kelowna
Prince George
St. Johns
St. John
Quebec City

But for the moment Brandon has to get a combination of

a. STOH
b. Manitoba Provincial Mens championship
c. Canadian Juniors
d. Slam

Don't know if there's another city council in Canada who would willingly forward $300k for curling. That's just awesome immo!

You forgot Toronto, Oshawa & Montreal...attendance at the Grand Slams when they are held in Toronto are pretty good...

Yes, I did.

Toronto, Montreal and even Vancouver are pathetic when it comes to Briers and world championships!

The odd slam seems to do well in Toronto. What a shame!

We'll see how the mixed does...

I do think Brandon would be able to do the Hearts and maybe the worlds. That would include Mens, Womens and juniors.

Kamloops does not have 8500 seats but a lot were empty at the last Brier there anyway.

I think they would try and go for the Olympic Trials.

Brandon - the trials? Not a hope in H$$l. Eugene Melynk wrote a cheque for 1 million $ so Ottawa would get the 2017 trials.
Hamilton, Toronto and Oshawa- too funny that anyone would consider them hotbeds of curling. Hamilton's Brier was a financial disaster.
Montreal's Scotties lost big time $

But Toronto might surprise you if they host the trials....
