The Manx Missile is back! Cav takes the first stage and will don the maillot jaune for stage 2. Someone else will claim it by the end of today. Cat 3 climb to the finish. Could be a stage for Sagan.

Tomorrow will be the first stage when the GC boys come out to play. Lots of small climbs at the end. Sprinters will be forming the gruppetto at the back.

GC boys did come out to play today. Movistar looks strong along with Sky. Contador losses a bunch of time. Two man GC race is what I see, Quintana and Froome.

First rest day. Contador abandons, Froome in yellow, Quintana right there.

Renshaw, the lead out man for Cavendish, abandons. This could mean that Cav will also abandon before the end so he can get ready for the Olys.

two more weeks to go

I used to love watching the Tour as well. Really lost interest after the winner each year seemed to be dethroned a year later due to doping. If you can accept that doping is just another dynamic of the sport, it is a great event. I just couldn't accept that and stopped watching. My feelings have very little to do with Armstrong. The sport didn't change after he was done. Every year they say it's better and every year they keep cheating (i.e.doping, micro motors).

I think the Tours were better when they were all doping.

I think they have drug doping under control at this point. On the mechanical doping, they are x-raying every bike, every day.

Thursday is going to be a busy day for the TV remote, first day of the The Open Championship and Ventoux on Le Tour.

"Drug" doping may be more under control, but I doubt blood doping is, and after seeing some of the videos I'm unsure about whether Spartacus was using a motor in his bike. It's bad enough when the guys you don't like are caught cheating, even worse when you're a fan.

There was an interesting statement in an SI article from Floyd Landis regarding awarding the Tour to a clean rider after he was DQed that Oscar Pereiro talked with him during the race about when he had a transfusion scheduled. They do a good job of keeping the riders red blood count topped off, but under the "safety" limit.

It may be cleaner, but still not clean. I wish it were clean, but still love the Tour anyway.

Do you think Cavendish even bothers riding up Ventoux, or is that when he decides it's time to get ready for the Olympics.

I think he tries tomorrow but would not be surprised to see him abandon.

Watch the replay tonight. Amazing, confusing, chaotic finish.

Le Tour is over. Froome wins. Sagan gets the green. Sagan has won the green since he started in Le Tour. This will be year five. Yates gets the white. Polka dot might be up for grabs. Podium is still up for grabs, probably Molema and ???.

Summer Olympics. Some good, some not so much. Don't like the subjective sports (gymnastics, diving, etc.).

Lots of crashes in the cycling road races. Big crash in the women's today. Leader goes down on the big descent, lands on her head and neck. Knocked out for some time. Reports say she is in intensive care with spine injuries and a concussion.

Race I am waiting for is on the last day, the men's mountain bike with Sagan. Yes, same guy that won a couple of stages on Le Tour and won the green jersey again.

Watched the archery, shocked by how far they shoot. 70 meters! That is a long way.

Reports today are that she's stable...in the hospital still, with fractures in her spine and elsewhere, but she's stable...

Which is a lot better than it looked she'd be when I saw that fall...oof...
