Here's a general question for all. At the Brier, Scotties, Slams etc. the ice is great. Massive curl on guards, draws and down weight hits (board and less) and pin straight on up weight hits.

In Nova Scotia, our Provincial stones act the same way on guards, draws and down weight hits, assuming the ice is half decent. However where they differ is that we get a full foot of curl on normal weight hits and 4-6 inches on peel weight (depending on who is throwing). Location in the ice and turns don't change the amount of curl. The club does not change this either.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this would be? Would it be stones? Ice conditions?

Good question!

I believe it is likely the stones; the size (diameter)of the cup in combination with the width of the running surface will determine contact with the ice = the disbursement of weight (pounds per square inch).

The temperature of the ice (colder in arena settings) and pebble water used will also play a role in the performance of the rocks.
