Canada vs Brazil Mens WCC Playdowns

It was announced yesterday that Brazil is challenging for one of the American Zone spots at the WMCC in Las Vegas in 2018.

With USA being host team, it will be Canada, even though they are reigning champs, that take on Brazil in January in London at the Continental Cup.

Team Canada has not yet been announced, but one would think they would go with the reigning champions to take on Brazil

Not sure they would, actually...

The Continental Cup will be going on at the same time (at the same venue, in fact, it appears...), and I suspect Canada will deem it more likely that their best team would get better Olympic Prep playing in the CC against a lot of the teams they will be facing in Korea versus a Brazilian team that is basically 0 for eternity against the U.S.

Now, if Gushue doesn't win RoTR, then I could see it...but if he's the Olympic Team, he's playing in the Cup, not the Qualifier.

Canada's 5th best team should be able to handle it without drama.

Thank god this goes away next year when the playin event begins.

I don't think it goes away once the playin starts. Brazil will still have the right to qualify through the Americas. Whoever does not qualify through the Americas can go to the play-in. Pretty sure that is how I read it.

I was thinking Curling Canada should just send a second tiered team to battle Brazil for the spot, should be more than enough to overwhelm them.
