Controversial brooms

Just took this from Twitter. Its interesting. I'm wondering who MaryAnn played and were they really using the controversial brooms.

Looks like Harrison the eventual winner ("lost an A-side qualifier to a team that used the pads in question but did not turn the fabric inside out") who beat her 6-2 to knock her out of the A Event and went undefeated as champion.

Harrison is 26-4 in her last 30 games including a 15 game winning streak according to WCT. Three Championships this year.

It's not hard to figure out who they played.

The article said they lost an A side qualifier to the team. Looking at the spiel, the team Mary-Anne is complaining about is Team Harrison, who won the event.

Several items/accusations are raised in the article. I'll only mention one:

"They switched brushes depending on whether it was a hit, draw, in-turn or outturn, using different pad coverings for different shots. The manipulation was very deliberate and well planned."

Here is something where I definitely feel rules and directions can be put into place now. Why not have a rule indicating that players cannot exchange brushes/brush heads during a game? A player could have a designated brush for sweeping, and a designated brush for throwing (often but not always the same)

I can see 3 legitimate reasons for a change in the game.

1.) Your pad feels wet, and you want a dry one
2.) Ice conditions change and you would like to switch from Pad to Hair, or vice-versa.
3.) You broom breaks/tears/ etc.

I'm sure an easy rule could come up with this that would allow for these two changes, but not the change for every shot. Something like "Players will be permitted to change their sweeping broom at the middle of the game (4th or 5th end break), or at any point if a mechanical failure occurs"

Can someone please tell me which teams are using these controversial brooms and has it made a definite change in their wins and losses? I really want to know what teams are. The stats should prove whether there is an edge using them, however, as a long time curling fan who has fought and fought, phoned stations, pushed to get these curling games on stations writing many messages, letters, we don't need this controversy working against what gains we have made to get to finally see it a lot more on TV. So, if all aren't going to use them, sorry, no one should be using them. That is not talent that becomes greed to win. That is like a racehorse having weights fraudulently put in his bag by an opponent so he is slower and burdened and another horse wins. Yes, I was involved in exercising race horses years ago also and heard a lot of what to watch for. From what I remember from my years watching, curlers have always had an ethical reputation. We don't need this turning the sport into something like what has happened with drug use in baseball and Fifa (not sure of spelling) with soccer. Either they are legit or they aren't and I don't care how many win with them, if it is crooked it is crooked or if it has an unfair advantage over your opponent, it isn't honest, and you still have to live with your conscious. So, if they don't give you something genuine that you know isn't like cheating to win, then leave them home. I would walk away from fighting for curling if it turns out that it becomes dishonest. My father would roll over in his grave after all the curling he pulled for and bragged about, took part in and taught me what I know from way back in the 50s/60s. The Curling regulators need to make a rule NOW before this gets to be sickening to be a part of or to watch. Have the guts to say yes or no and let's get on with the season. I cannot stand animosity in any sport. It is not fair to the curlers who will not curl their best with this over their heads, nor to the fans that wait all season to watch and then have to go through this discomfort wondering if your team is honest to follow or not.
