Strange question

This is an odd question.

I've been away from curling for a few years, and just getting back. Probably 10 years ago or so I remember a bald curler, who looked very similar to Kevin Koe if I remember correctly. He had a very large scar on his head...it looked like he was missing a large chunk of skin from his scalp.

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to whom this might be. I've been unsuccessful in searching for him.

Thanks.

I believe you are thinking of Manitoba's Kerry Burtnyk.

That's exactly who I was thinking of...thank you. I had no idea he was already 58 years old.

Burtnyk's baldness and scar on his head was the result of a rare and serious form of cancer.

He has a daughter (Kristy) who, as skip, won the Manitoba junior provincial championships this year. It's her last year as a junior, so we may be seeing her at the elite level fairly soon.

The link below is to a nice story about Kerry - and his cancer - from a few years back...
