Answer to Relegation

The Answer to Relegation should go like this:
16 teams-14 from the Associations+ Team Canada+CRTS leader
2-Pools to be played Sat. Am till Wed. night includes tiebreaker time
Bottom 8 can either go home or stay on their own nickel
Top 8 complete crossover games-2 day
Page Sat. & Sunday
If an Association does not want to compete go to #2 CRTS

How are the pools determined?

TC in one, CTRS in another then seeding based on previous year?

Sure I'm easy its the CCA we have to convince.
Now if a family member wants to go in support its not a big SEE ya before they cracked the first beer in the Patch!

The CCA really should do something. Their reason of making changes in the name of fairness seems rather empty when one of the teams has to play an extra day or two of curling.
I am shocked they took it upon themselves to a tarnish a Canadian tradition for the sake of money.

If the Brier can become a tiered championship, it sets a bad precedent for other national championships in other sports.

Ya know....that's frickin brilliant...

You'd get the middle of the pack drama to get to the "Elite 8" on tuesday, plus page seeding/qualification drama on Thursday/Friday, then the page and finals...

That is quite possibly the greatest solution ever created to a curling problem...and I'm not being sarcastic at all.

Something that they should consider adding in...for the 8 teams that don't get into the Elite 8, an optional intensive skills camp from national level coaches on the Thursday/Friday...kind of a "Okay, you're good enough to get here...here's what you can work on for the next 11 months to be back here next year and still on the ice...host that off camera at a local club...helps grow a little elite depth in the lower tier areas.

It should not be too hard for the CCA to consider - they are already doing it for the Canadian Mixed!

Theres no CRTS or Team Canada in the Mixed, If a province was strong they could have as many as 3 teams.

There is some merit in this. You'd have to identify the CTRS leader before the provincials, but the concept in principle is a good one.

On another note, why can't the Scotties/Brier go to 5 sheets of play? Wouldn't that allow them to have a bigger field?

I don't think the field needs to get any larger. 16 teams is enough and there would be balance in the draw with potential tiebreaker time after both RR sections and this can be done on 4 sheets.
