I've defended the Jones team in this space, but I'm objective enough to know that they haven't curled their best this year. Their lone bonspiel win was the DeKalb and that's minor league in terms of the level of opposition. I think the event is more wide-open than some people think.

Jones at her best is a world beater, at her worst embarrassing. But because you either love her or hate her her matches are always interesting, and she seems to rise to the occasion at the Scotties.
She won't disappoint.

It would be nice if she would perform as well as she does in the Scotties at worlds, been 8 years since she(and CAN) last won Gold.

Which Jones will show up...
By a strange twist of fate two teams that might have knocked Jones out..eliminated themselves...
Alberta might give her a good match .. but they don't really have exceptional talent thru the lineup..with the exception of the second.
Saskatchewan ..just might be one of the dark horses... they showed they can handle huge pressure..winning the province.
If Jones under estimates them.. who knows.. 2011 re-visited?
Northern Ontario.. can and likely will beat Jones at some point...
Krista McCarville can keep pace with Jones.. a solid front end and
..as we shall see.. one of the Top Thirds in the field...
they have beat the worlds top Teams this season...
It will be a close one..

WTF? AB. lead is a Canadian champ. AB. third is a Canadian champ and an Olympic bronze. And you come up with no exceptional talent except for the second??

. just my POV
Laine Peters ( 46) and Amy Nixon ( 10 yrs ago..Oly bronze )..have really done nothing since 2012
Chelsey Carey's highest achievement is a bronze at the 2014 STOH

There is only ONE other team that has done anything since 2012.
Bronze in your one and only Scotties is not a bad record.
On paper this is the ONLY team that should challenge Jones.
But, the game ain't played on paper.

Team Canada plays Alberta right out of the gate
3:30 ET..Sat Feb 20.....
will be interesting to see how Chelsey handles the pressure..

Anyone who thinks Laine Peters isn't an ice warrior needs to remember she has won the scotties more than once! She was an alternate during the Jaugernaut years of Colleen Jones, and YES she did see ice time when the girls were sick at events or if they were playing an easy win with first clinched.
She won't be bothered by nerves like some of the less experienced teams.
And did everyone forget the personality that Amy Nixon brings to the ice? Never give up never get down never stop swinging? If that's not a warrior I don't know what is.

A side note from the Scotties:
It looks like defending world champion Alina Paetz will not get the opportunity to defend her title. She is struggling in the Swiss playdowns as of now. If Tirinzoni can get past Feltscher in playoffs (which I think is a best of 3 between the top 2 round robin finishers), then I think she has a good chance of winning worlds this year. I know she always does good on the cash circuit and usually blows it whenever she gets a chance to go to the worlds, but I think her team is looker stronger than it ever has before.

Ptz is still alive and kicking. Right now, she's in a playoff spot.
Switzerland has 3 teams making the playoffs in a modified Page. She just needs to keep herself ahead of the 3 fawns to quote Manitoba Legend and be hot on Saturday by beating the other 2 Swiss monsters. Last year, Pfister did something like that on the men's side.

I'll go.
Jones 9-2
Carey 9-2
McCarville 7-4
Einarson 6-5 (wins TB)
Campbell 6-5
Larouche 6-5
Hanna 5-6
Birt 5-6
Brothers 5-6
Robichaud 3-8
Thompson 3-8 (Qualifier against Galusha)
Curtis 2-9
Jones wins 1-2
McCarville wins 3-4
MCCarville wins SF
Jones wins F
Then again, I could see a lot of stuff happening, any team I've put at 5-6 or better could go as high as 8-3, but I do think that on Friday morning for the final draw that we'll still have multiple sheets with implications for the playoffs.

My mistake. I had thought only the top two teams from the round robin made playoffs.
If Alina Paetz can make playoffs I will not write her off just yet. She will have a big challenge on her hands with both Tirinzoni and Feltscher, but if the team can perform to their potential - Watch out!

Maybe he's referring to her recent performances this season.

predictions
Not feeling the Scotties this year due to the lack of competition. Should be no surprise at all, Jones will be seeded first followed by Carey. Jones will win the 1v2, Carey will win the semi but most likely lose again, giving JJones her 6th title. Don't really need to bother seeding anyone else. either SK,NS or NFL will finish last & earn their province a pre-qualifer for next years STOH!
