Scotish Championship

Well Sophie Jackson and her team have defeated Eve Muirhead and her team 11 - 7 in the Championship finals.

Wow...I hope her team is the one that goes to the Worlds. Some of these federations have a habit of deciding who goes and it’s not the winner!

Yes please send the team that won fair and square. I am not even sure if Eve should go as a 5th. Let the new team go all in at the Worlds without feeling that a bad game my require a shuffle to the lineup.

The last thing she needs is any interference/help from team Muirhead. She's been to junior worlds and world mixed so no stranger to world championships. Let her gain experience on her own.

Remember how Murdoch started off as 5th/consultant for Tom Brewster and ended up stealing his team. Had to justify the pro salary. How did that work out?

Game has been played. Sophie won 11-7. Mouat Muirhead mens final now in the 4th.

I agree with prairie guy in that they don't need the coaches and Eve waiting to change the lineup after 1 bad game.

That actually worked out pretty well considering they won an Olympic silver medal.

I don't disagree with your point, just a weird example to use

I should have finished the sentence, how did that work out for Brewster sitting on the bench as his team of 3 years were out there playing for the gold medal and he could nothing but cheer lead because he was stripped of his position by the Scottish curling federation who thought it would be a good idea to have Murdoch be their 5th, to ultimately interfere and place their golden boy as skip to gain the glory and to justify paying his team tons of money to travel just to lose to Brewster

I'm just saying I hope they don't do the same and insert Muirhead

you guys are getting worked up over nothing. scotland is usually very good about sending whoever wins nationals to worlds. true they might at times screw around with lineup but in general they are pretty good. along with switzerland and canada they are the best in that regard of just saying "whoever wins nationals goes" and they have gotten better at just letting teams be.

Funny and ironic you would say that . Word on the street (huggy bear from starsky and hutch) the grand old Scottish curling authority wants Sophie Jackson not go to worlds to allow Muirhead to go and force her to go to the university games instead. They are 2 weeks apart. You would think the WINNER would have first choice as to which event they want to attend. Let Sophie go to worlds and the runner up at the Scottish University games go there

Again nothing confirmed but looks like the embarrassment of 100000's of dollars spent on the top team outweighs who actually wins.

BREWSTER WITH A CAPITAL B revisited.. Jackson should be able to go to BOTH You win, you go. You lose, go home.

Sophie has one of the two sponsored women's teams in Britain. I can't see why there would be any embarrassment.

well, my first question would be where are you hearing that and from who?

secndly, if thats true thats surprising to me. like i said scotland has been pretty good about letting national winners go to worlds. i cant even think of the last time where the national winner didnt go..whether the powers that be wanted them to or not

Scottish viewers were discussing it last night during the junior streaming game. One viewer said is was posted on Sophies facebook. I guess we'll have to wait and see it in writing

Found this

Sounds like she may challenge the decision to make her go to just the University games. Found this on the Scottish curling site

World Women’s Curling Championship selection

At the Scottish Curling Championship finals on Saturday 16 February 2019, Team Jackson were victorious over Team Muirhead and lifted the winners trophy for the first time. Following the conclusion of the game, Team Jackson met with the PD and Head Coach of the performance programme along with the CEO of Scottish Curling, to discuss the next steps for them and, in particular, the forthcoming World University Games (WUGS) in Russia. It was agreed that WUGS had been set as the priority for Team Jackson in 2018-19 and due to the closeness with the World Women’s Championship, it would not be possible to properly prepare for the Worlds and compete in WUGS. Team Jackson had made a commitment to WUGS so it was concluded that another team would represent Scotland at the Worlds.

Team Jackson have subsequently requested that this situation is reviewed and Scottish Curling has agreed to review on Sunday 17 February 2019. A further update will be published by Scottish Curling, after the completion of this review.

okay, i see now. well i do hope she's allowed to go. i personally dont see how its a conflict and how they wouldnt have time to prepare. 2 weeks is enough time. if they do well in the university games that could even help them .

but this is a one time thing. this is not the norm for scotland not to send the winner

It would be great if Eve just came out and said that the team that kicked our butts at the nationals should go and not us. And maybe she even thinks that but some of the old Scottish curling heads will only want to send her. Please please let the young ladies go.

IF Sophie/Scottish Curling had no intention of sending this team to Worlds heading into this completion then what were they doing competing (I rather doubt that) HOWEVER if they are willing, able and want to do both of these events and are not allowed by Scottish Curling then shame on Scottish Curling. You win an event you get the ashtray.Period.🥕🎂🥌

Team Muirhead goes? - they shall fail. All on the shoulders of the SCA. Gadz, young blood is what she began with, how can they forget that? Would like to see more of Sophie. Good reactions on SC's FB page, eg: "Jamie Cannon posted: I'm looking on the European and GSOC tours and seeing competitions with the same turnaround as the WUGS and the World's. Perhaps Team Hasselborg's crazy schedule this season can be highlighted as proof it can be done. How can anyone think of penalising a team that has earned the right to play at the World's? It's said the Canadian Olympic trials leaves behind other rinks capable of winning a medal (Jennifer Jones, anyone?) and that's once every four years. Come on Scottish Curling, you only have to do the right thing."

Because if they didn't let her compete there would only be THREE teams left competing for all of Scotland and TWO of them are JUNIORS. What does it say about Scottish curling with only ONE LADIES TEAM LEFT COMPETING in the whole country. Yikes

Sign up and go to worlds. Wonder what the other countries think of this. Switzerland with a bunch of teams... 3-4 world class teams fight it out and Eve signs up and goes. signs up, gets paid, and goes. Hopefully they'll figure it out.

I wouldn't go that far. The US is just as bad or worse. If any of the non top teams win their national championships they don't get to go to worlds........unless the top 3 funded US teams crap the bed and don't make the playoffs. Their caveat is they get to go to the Continental cup for meaningless exhibition games. make that one team game, 1 mixed and 2 mixed doubles and if they're lucky a skins game........worlds? or exhibition?

Further complicating matters is that Eve is considering a second surgery on her hip.

https://www.heraldscotland.com/spor...as-andy-murray/

To sum up, she says there she’s only back to about 70% from where she wants to be.

As I understand it, the US program currently says that to get to Worlds, you have to not only win the US Championship, but also meet a minimum ranking threshold on the world points system. Iirc, on the women’s side, the only non-high performance team that was above that threshold was Team Senneker, who placed fourth in the event.

If Scotland already has a similar rule on its books and Jackson doesn’t meet it, then she shouldn’t go. If not, if they’re making it up as they go after the fact, then Jackson absolutely should go.

As Canadians, I don't see how it is any of our business how another country chooses their representative. Lets worry about our own representation. For a poster to suggest the WCF ban a country is at best, ignorant. But most likely idiotic. If I were the poster I would be more concerned if I was going to make it through my next Monday afternoon stick curling contest.

Team Jackson is going to the worlds. Right decision . Rule 12(b) from their rule book apparently states the winner goes to the worlds.
