Clubs 2015

I thought a thread for Clubs might be fun. I'm just trying to facilitate the discussion and increase awareness.

The GNCC just started (all together now: IVO...IVO...IVO). Some old guys are playing with youngsters and that should be good for the youngsters; and the old guys as well. Stopera/Stopera/Austin/Austin seems like they'd be easy to cheer for. Stafanik is loaded and they've been on the road and doing pretty good. I suspect they'll win. The Ladies, as usual, are more interesting. I like Nina Reiniger's chances.

One of my sons is playing in the North Dakota Clubs. They start on Jan 2.

The reward for teams advancing out of the region... a no-expense paid trip to Fargo, ND the first week of March 2015. Maybe a tour by Tuck

Hard for me to root for anyone, since they are all friends, but inside I'm pulling for my Plainfield ladies and fellas. (IVO IVO IVO!!! NINA NINA NINA!!!)

Team Stopera killing it so far, looking very strong. Stefanik also looking good.

Reininger hanging tough and Longnecker (formerly Team Heisler) also looking strong.

Warm room has had a lot of traffic and the ice is great.

what happened to Bialek from Massachusetts? Team fist-bump did well last year at club nationals, but I don't see them this year in the GNCC lineup.

OOof....

Looking at the line scores, looks like GNCC Men's draw 4...the latenight special...probably resulted in some really, really late off the ice times...

2 games go 11 ends, and the other is a one pointer that goes the distance...

Melvin Shaw's Potomac rink takes 3 with the hammer in the 10th to tie and then steals in the extra to hang an L on Petrov.

Mayne steals one on Bykowski in the EE as well.

Anyone of the GNCC guys awake yet? Sounds like sleepins were well earned.

IVO!!! IVO!!! Ivo! Ivo! ivo ivo ivo Whatthehell? He's got citizenship, so we can't ship him back to Romania (Bulgaria? I forget). Nina ain't really lightin' it up, either. Perhaps Plainfield's reign of terror is over?

are club playdowns still "Must lose 2 in the round robin to be eliminated"?

If so, looks like the Findlay rink from Potomac has clinched at least a playoff for the GNCC Women's berth, 3-0 with only 1 to play, only two teams with only one loss, and they play each other in an elimination match Sunday morning.

No need for tiebreakers in Wisconsin. In fact, no need for Sunday curling. Spielman (best curling name ever?) wins. Out of the Blackhawk club in Janesville, he has National Club experience from his days at second with Olson. Congrats. See you in Fargo.

Team Findlay wins the GNCC Women's Club Championship going 4-0.

Looks like the men's will be a battle between Shaw and Stopera.

You never met Spielman but you have met his lead at the Granite before the 125th MCA opener. We never had that beer, but I will be bringing Spotted Cow and some of the worlds finest cheese.

And Spielman is the best name in curling but his better half did not allow him to name is son Bon.

Looking forward to Fargo in March.

Wait....is that playoffs listing correct?

Shaw goes 7-0 through the round robin, including a victory over Stopera, but Stopera gets a *single elimination* chance against Shaw?

That can't be right, nor would it be fair...I'm assuming it's a typo or other error? I understand Stopera getting a chance because of the double elim rule...but Shaw should have a loss in the bank, so they should have two chances at the carrot, shouldn't they?

Someone assure me that's just a misprint on the playoffs/tiebreakers page or that I'm reading it right...

Alan, It is still double elimination. If Melvin's team wins this game, they go to Nationals. If they lose, they will play Stopera again at 8 PM.

Just in case anyone is curious about how in the world Drummie stole 5 to win their tiebreaker......

.....apparently they didn't. I'm told the Reiniger team ran out of time. Ouch.

Yes and there is no way to show "ran out of time" on the scoreboard so I just put in enough to make Drummie win.

Now onto the final game (no really this is the last one or I turn the compressor off) with Stopera v Shaw for the chance to enjoy a wonderful time in Fargo.

OKay, I'm glad to hear that there is a double elmin really in place.

and oof....losing by the clock while up 4....can someone who was there please explain what happened...were they in major time jail through the whole game, or did Drummie manage to force it in the 10th somehow or what?

There's gotta be a story there.

Thanks for the information regarding the Drummie game, was curious how that happened. Been there myself, it's tough.

Was "thinking time" being used at this event? If so, and you are up by 4, couldn't you just fire each of your rocks as soon as the opponent's came to rest? Feel like you would only need about 20 seconds of thinking time for the whole end...? Up by four you are just hitting everything anyways..

At club regionals...sometimes not all of the players are as versed in time saving techiques as others...not saying that's what happened here (I still wanna know...) but it is a possibility.
