I guess every sport has it's rules but as long as it makes the sport better and doesn't give an "unfair" advantage there is nothing wrong with advancements.

I think I have seen the stick abused more than any other single thing but without it look how many club curlers we would lose!

Larry, I got scared when I opened your answer to the thread. Perhaps stopwatches were a conspiracy of the CCA and we should stop sending the cheques!java script:smilie('')

I agree with you that a lot of stick curlers abuse of it and turn their disability into an advantage. Some even turn to the stick even if they physically would not need to.

As for stopwatches, I don't think they are an advancement for club curlers but rather something that actually prevents them from improving their feel for the game.

I have never accused CCA or OCA of a conspiracy..never thought they were smart enough to run one

I coached sailing for 30 years and sailed competitively when I was younger and racing sail boats stop watches and timing are a necessity.

In curling, it is more of an aid because you still have to judge the rock. For new curlers I think it gives them a comparism to learn judgement. You may know that 3.8 is draw weight but now you can watch a rock thrown at 3.8 and see the glide. I don't think under any condition it would be a disadvantage because you learn quickly that the watch is only a guide.
