Not quite ready to annoint him the greatest 3rd in Manitoba curling history - but the discussion is obviously underway.

Beej (BJ Neufeld) is making a strong case as the greatest of all-time for Manitoba 3rds.

Obviously a rather substantial list already - here's the gist of it:

1. Grant Watson - vice on his brother Ken's 3 Brier victories; a couple other Manitoba championships in the 40s but no Brier due to war.

2. Jonathan Mead - the great Stoughton 3rd, Kevin Martin was fascinated by this guy when he first saw him, referring to Jon as "that little bald guy that makes a ton of shots"

3. Rod "The Arrow" Hunter - nobody looked better on a sheet of ice than The Arrow, model for many curling deliveries around the world. His percentages were never monster high but he had the best front end to work with - and also had Don Duguid making shot after shot at Briers & Worlds

4. Reid Carruthers. Can't think of many others. Bob Jenion was always hangin' around with top teams, same with the Carey brothers (Bill with Barry Fry 1979) and Dan with the great Vic Peters.

At this point I'm putting Beej in the Top 3 all-time 3rds from Manitoba.

why do all of these guys start kicking rocks out of the house as soon as the last rock of the end stops moving or, in some cases, while that last rock is still moving. Who started that? Why does everybody do it?

If my lack of memory serves, Hebert was one of the first to start this about 10-12 years ago. Nothing would please me more than to have an opposing team call him on it and say, hey, we were going to measure that and you kicked it before it stopped.. As the non offending team making the request, the officials would have no choice but remove the rock, and it would not count. Funny to watch I think. I'd pay to see it. Broom shrapnel and cursing everywhere.

That HAPPENED in the Brier game against Gushue this year but it was not Ben! Koe gave up an early steal of two in end #1 and Koe must have kicked the rocks off with two rocks biting the back 8' (he's the only player not on camera). Gushue took the high ground and gave them the benefit of the doubt (it did look like only 2 but worth a second look and/or measure). Check it out on Youtube at 19:45. Koe won the game 7-6 - I wonder if team Gushue regretted that high ground...

would be nice if TSN would show two draws per day even if they have to show one without Canada. One game a day sucks especially when the feature game isn't close.

Was gonna post the same thing. He does it quite often actually, and has been doing it for years. He'll get burned by it at some point. I just hope that team Canada doesn't pay for it at this world's. But I would like to see him called out on it for sure.

Seems Shuster wanted an ovation for a simple shot that wasn't even his last rock:

Why would a player at his level want an ovation for a shot he should make 95/100 times. It's not a Canada thing, it's a ho hum nose hit.

Does that mean Japan and Sweden should also get multiple teams?

As for Shuster, they were just joking around. Canada gets a strong crowd reaction for open shots while others get nothing. Obviously due to the home crowd effect. You just caught them making smart ass comments at each other.

Spoken by a hater who has never met him. I have, Gerry has, we know what kind of guy he is. Gold and Bronze Olympic medals, give it a break.

It was written on Bunny Hebert's face. A sense of inevitability -that we're (Canada) just not good enough to stop Sweden or Japan in medal play.

However, this Canadian team is good enough to qualify . . . . and depending who they play in their quarter-final - a real possibility of advancing to the semis.

Don't like their chances vs. Scottish Mouat but both teams are having spot struggles this week. Koe just began his struggle portion yesterday - missing some easy shots - crashing on front guards with reckless abandon.

The realization they're not quite good enough vs. the polished Swedes and the advancing Japanese has to be quite disheartening - but unfortunately its true.

If KK flounders today and drop a bad one - they'll be shaky going into the playoffs.

Victor Router was having a real bad day counting rocks yesterday. . . .. . . hates it when TSN forced to switch games - - - - only because the officials have escorted the Canadians off the ice!

Not a U.S.A. fan but cannot dismiss the fact that to date, after 13 rounds, all four of that team are curling really, really well.

Lead: Landsteiner 91%

Second: Hamilton 90%

Third: Plys 86%

Skip: Shuster 86%

I love how the Luthor twins (Koe & Beedge) are discussing all the possibilities.

The actual shots - NOT SO MUCH

Tv upclose shots accentuate weight , goofy baseball caps, baseball pants - gray look like sweats, frowns, expressions , bald heads etc

Tsn and rsn are infatuated with unfair closeups and catching f bombs and tears - other sports are treated better - odd exception like blacks dancing after a touchdown ,

USA team is a collection of average tradesnan guys,

we had the wrench who didn’t turn warren on , Bartlett, Morris , Ryan - better now, Gushue - better now , Ferbey , 1989 Martin, Gould, Russ the screamer, lemecha boys, meleschuk, just average guys that some defususes didn’t care for

Kinda like some posters on here

We cant all be cute and likeable like marc , ulsrud, and omlet boy schwartz - ate about ten in vegas !

Wow, one bad day and the #1 team in the world is suddenly no good? They will be there when the moneys on the line like they always are. The only team I see having a chance to beat them in the playoffs is Edin cuz that team is hall of fame too. Hopefully they meet in the finals and not the semis.

Very well. They won it with some great doubles and that hammer shot in the 9th. I'd be surprised to not see them in the finals.

Love how Mad Matty Hamilton was signing autographs for folks in the stands while USA-Canada was underway!

Russ was fuming - brought up the fact Wrench would fine his front end when they looked at another sheet - whether a game was being played or not!

I actually loved looking over at other sheets when i curled with Jumbo Pettapiece & Danny Fink. Broke the boredom!
